We had an awesome time at The Birthday Massacre show earlier this week at the Ace of Spades. So many great bands performed including one of of our local favorites, Awoken Shadows and two spectacular sets by The Red Paintings and New Years Day. Another highlight of the night was catching the energetic set of Snow White Smile. They have a very refreshing sound that blends industrial and alternative edge to rock. Check out the photos by our Rockin Ryan of their set:

This was the last show of 2014 for Snow White Smile but stay tuned because 2015 is going to be a great year for them. They also have available their debut album as well as their remix album for sale on their official webstore: http://snowwhitesmileband.com/store.html. Flyleaf

Flyleaf bassist Pat Seals shares, “We are thrilled to be headlining SnoCore this Winter. Joining the tour back in 2006 as a support act was such a formative experience for Flyleaf, and we’re looking forward to bringing it back to our fans in 2015.”

adelitasway

Adelita’s Way

Adelita’s Way founder and vocalist Rick DeJesus offers, “We are very excited to be a part of SnoCore with Flyleaf.  This tour will be the most energetic, and exciting tour that will be out this winter. It will be a show no one should miss.”

Framing Hanley

Framing Hanley

Framing Hanley singer Kenneth Nixon states, “It’s an honor to be a part of this SnoCore lineup.  SnoCore is a tour that I grew up always wanting to check out, but Nashville, TN isn’t particularly snowy, so I missed out on a lot of great tours. We are absolutely stoked to be hitting the road with Flyleaf, Adelita’s Way, & Fit For Rivals.”

Fit For Rivals

Fit For Rivals

Fit For Rivals Renee Phoenix adds, “We’re excited to be out with Flyleaf because personally, they’re a band I’ve been listening to since I was younger.  I remember picking up their debut album in 2005 and becoming a fan myself.  We also did a run with Framing Hanley a few years back and it’ll be nice to share the stage with them once again!

So make sure to stay tuned for tour dates and additional information.

What an amazing night for music at the Ace of Spades in Sacramento it was yesterday. We will be bringing you our full coverage of all the bands from the night but let’s start it off with our feature on The Birthday Massacre. Hailing from Canada, this hybrid new wave, gothic rock and electronic infused band really made an impression on Sacramento!

It was a stormy day that left the roads flooded in some parts of Sacramento but that didn’t stop the dedicated fans from coming out to the show. After braving the 3 1/2 hour drive in rain and dodging the lightning storm, we were glad to finish off the night with a stellar set from The Birthday Massacre. Their music is as if they gave a refreshing vibrant makeover to the 90’s new wave synth dates, without feeling dated. Their energy was infectious as they each have a cinematic stage presence. We were treated to many of their songs from their recently released album, Superstition and each one had you wanting more. I was hoping to pick up the new album but unfortunately (well, fortunate for them) they had sold out of them! You can head over to iTunes here and pick it up online. With spotlight songs like Divide, Superstition and Surrender you are going to love it.

Check out the photos from our Rockin Ryan of their set:

There are still several dates left on the tour, so if they are coming to a venue near you, do your best to try and make it out to a show!

  • DEC 05 Portland, OR – Hawthorne Theatre
  • DEC 06 Seattle, WA – Studio Seven
  • DEC 09 Salt Lake City, UT – Murray Theatre
  • DEC 10 Denver, CO – Bluebird Theatre
  • DEC  13 Minneapolis, MN – Triple Rock Social Club
  • DEC 14 Chicago, IL – Bottom Lounge
  • DEC 16 Cleveland, OH – The Agora Ballroom
  • DEC 17 Pontiac, MI – The Crofoot Ballroom

budderside

I am so excited to announce the new band, Budderside from one of our favorite vocalists, Patrick Stone. Patrick caught our eye when we saw him perform with Steven Adler’s Adlers Appetite at The Red Devil Lounge in SF a couple years back. He really grabbed our attention with his powerful vocals and a stage presence that made him the ideal frontman.

His new band, Budderside will feature Patrick Stone,  Rich Sacco, and Michael Stone. It is still in the early stages but check out the video teaser which will get you ready to rock! I can’t wait to hear more and one thing is for sure, it is going to fuckin ROCK!

So make sure to visit his Facebook page so you can stay up to date on the latest Budderside news. I am hoping their will be some shows coming up here to Northern California soon!

joe perry

Tis the season to be jolly, and all that other merry stuff! What I enjoy about the holidays is getting to finally play my holiday music. I have a vast collection of Holiday music dating back to the classics, the remakes, punk rock/pop/ metal  Christmas collections and much more! Now I have one more to add to my collection and this one is from one of my favorite artists, Joe Perry.

His new four song EP, Joe Perry’s Merry Christmas features a collection of holiday songs features four Christmas classics: White Christmas,” “Silent Night,” “Santa Claus Is Back In Town” and “Run Run Rudolph” with Johnny Depp on rhythm guitar. The EP is available now at Unison’s website or on iTunes. Joe comments about the album, “I have wanted to do a Christmas CD with Aerosmith for years, but it seems we never have the time to record one. When my ROCKS book tour ended, the timing was right–we were in LA with access to a studio with some really talented friends and it all fell together.  I was finally able to record some Christmas classics for the fans.”

Check out more about what Joe Perry says about the holidays:

JOE PERRY TALKS ABOUT THE HOLIDAYS

With so many holiday songs out there, how did you choose these selections? And, why did you choose to record some as instrumentals and others as vocal tracks?

JP:  “The two instrumentals are among the 10 most popular Christmas songs. Almost everyone knows the lyrics to ‘Silent Night’ and ‘White Christmas,’ so we treated them as songs that people could sing along to, while staying close to the classic versions everyone knows. The two vocal songs, ‘Santa’s Back in Town’ and ‘Run Run Rudolph’ are rockers made famous by Elvis and Chuck Berry. They are probably less well known so you would have to hear the lyrics to know they are Christmas songs. They are two of my favorite holiday songs.”

What do the holidays mean to you?

JP:  “It’s a time for the family to get together and try to put the troubles of the world aside for a short while.”

Do you have any annual family holiday traditions?

JP:  “We always open a gift the night before Christmas.  Now that the kids are older, we wake up and have brunch in front of the fire while opening the traditional Christmas stockings–that were handmade by their grandmother–and have hung on the mantle for years.  We take our time opening gifts and do not rip through them, making the day last as long as possible. We usually eat appetizers Christmas Day because we normally have a big Christmas Eve dinner, although it varies from year to year. We usually end up watchingChevy Chase’s Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story with our family later in the day.”

You’ve talked a lot about your upbringing in your new book ROCKS, do you have a favorite holiday memory?

JP:  “There was a time after Aerosmith got back together when we were doing almost yearly New Year’s Eve shows. One of my favorite ones was at the Orpheum right before the New Year rang in–we dragged living room furniture onto the stage and brought our wives out and celebrated with our fans.”

So make sure to pick up the EP and create the perfect holiday soundtrack.

ionia

It is so easy to lose touch with a friend or lose a connection with someone or something that made an impact on you. Life gets busy, we have obstacles to overcome and sometimes it just simply happens. But remember that feeling when you reconnect with that someone special or pull out your favorite cassette tape from the past and your passion is renewed in an instant? That is exactly how I feel right now as I have rekindled my love for Ionia.

I first came across Ionia as they performed with Smile Empty Soul back in May of 2012. I remember being completely blown away by them and I picked up their CD and played it the whole long ride home from Sacramento. Time passed and unfortunately with my busy schedule, I didn’t stay connected to their music. But that won’t happen again.

New York City Rockers, Ionia have released an epic cinematic video for their song, They Look Like Big Strong Hands Don’t They and it is well deserving of your time and attention. The song is absolutely captivating as the emotionally driven lyrics just seem to reach out to you and pick you up from where ever you have been or whatever you are struggling with. It is stellar and will take you on a musical journey of emotions, leading you right to where you belong. Their music will feed your soul. Check out the video here:

The song is their second single off Captain Humility and you can pick up it up on iTunes. Ionia are currently in the studio recording their new EP, Postcards From The Edge: Chapter 1. Delta 32, with Mike Sapone (Brand NewTaking Back Sunday) which I am very excited about.

Make sure to check out Ionia, this is one band that truly cares about their fans, the world we live in and how to make it a better place.  I will leave you with their video for Captain Humility. Now that I have renewed my connection with Ionia, maybe it is time to reach out to those people in my life that I have lost touch with.

Blessthefall were another great band to check out on the Moving On Tour. This was the first time for us catching them perform live and they were incredible. The crowd at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco were definitely ready to heavy it up by the time Blessthefall hit the stage. From the second they hit the stage, the intense wave of crowd surfers began. It was like a sea of legs in the air and sweat flying across the venue.

They kicked ass and I am already looking forward to the next time they return to San Francisco.  The energy these guys bring out is unreal and they had the crowd under their spell. Check out the photos from our Rockin Ryan of their set:
