We had an awesome time at The Birthday Massacre show earlier this week at the Ace of Spades. So many great bands performed including one of of our local favorites, Awoken Shadows and two spectacular sets by The Red Paintings and New Years Day. Another highlight of the night was catching the energetic set of Snow White Smile. They have a very refreshing sound that blends industrial and alternative edge to rock. Check out the photos by our Rockin Ryan of their set:

This was the last show of 2014 for Snow White Smile but stay tuned because 2015 is going to be a great year for them. They also have available their debut album as well as their remix album for sale on their official webstore: http://snowwhitesmileband.com/store.html. Flyleaf

Flyleaf bassist Pat Seals shares, “We are thrilled to be headlining SnoCore this Winter. Joining the tour back in 2006 as a support act was such a formative experience for Flyleaf, and we’re looking forward to bringing it back to our fans in 2015.”

adelitasway

Adelita’s Way

Adelita’s Way founder and vocalist Rick DeJesus offers, “We are very excited to be a part of SnoCore with Flyleaf.  This tour will be the most energetic, and exciting tour that will be out this winter. It will be a show no one should miss.”

Framing Hanley

Framing Hanley

Framing Hanley singer Kenneth Nixon states, “It’s an honor to be a part of this SnoCore lineup.  SnoCore is a tour that I grew up always wanting to check out, but Nashville, TN isn’t particularly snowy, so I missed out on a lot of great tours. We are absolutely stoked to be hitting the road with Flyleaf, Adelita’s Way, & Fit For Rivals.”

Fit For Rivals

Fit For Rivals

Fit For Rivals Renee Phoenix adds, “We’re excited to be out with Flyleaf because personally, they’re a band I’ve been listening to since I was younger.  I remember picking up their debut album in 2005 and becoming a fan myself.  We also did a run with Framing Hanley a few years back and it’ll be nice to share the stage with them once again!

So make sure to stay tuned for tour dates and additional information.

People always ask me to describe a band by telling them who they sound like or what genre, etc. Well, if I had to describe the alluring music of The Red Paintings, I would be left speechless since their uniqueness can only be described by listening to them for yourself. Their music is a fusion of everything from orchestra, punk, rock, alternative and so much more. Their music is rich in colors, depth and amazing artistic talent. We had the great opportunity of catching their set last night at Ace of Spades in Sacramento and to witness first hand their live performance of their orchestral rock art was a treat for all of us.

Their stage appearance and wardrobe was as if they formed their band through time travel, dressed in Renaissance wear or as Japanese Geisha Girls or period pieces. Their set also featured their human canvas which is painted live during their set to the music by local artists. The passion that they bring to the stage bleeds out with every note and every word of their songs. They are highly entertaining and had the crowd engaged from the second they stepped onto the stage. Check out the photos from our Rockin Ryan of their set:

In addition to the songs off their debut album, The Revolution is Never Coming, they performed their much loved cover of Mad World which in my honest opinion, is one of the best remakes of a song leading it to surpass the original in adoration. I loved how they truly owned it with their interpretation and will always have me thinking of them whenever I hear the original. You can watch a video from their set here:

You can pick up their album by visiting their website or iTunes here.  Make sure to check out their social media sites and stay up to date on their latest news.  Also, check out their upcoming tour dates and do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a show. It will be an amazing experience that you will not soon forget.

What an amazing night for music at the Ace of Spades in Sacramento it was yesterday. We will be bringing you our full coverage of all the bands from the night but let’s start it off with our feature on The Birthday Massacre. Hailing from Canada, this hybrid new wave, gothic rock and electronic infused band really made an impression on Sacramento!

It was a stormy day that left the roads flooded in some parts of Sacramento but that didn’t stop the dedicated fans from coming out to the show. After braving the 3 1/2 hour drive in rain and dodging the lightning storm, we were glad to finish off the night with a stellar set from The Birthday Massacre. Their music is as if they gave a refreshing vibrant makeover to the 90’s new wave synth dates, without feeling dated. Their energy was infectious as they each have a cinematic stage presence. We were treated to many of their songs from their recently released album, Superstition and each one had you wanting more. I was hoping to pick up the new album but unfortunately (well, fortunate for them) they had sold out of them! You can head over to iTunes here and pick it up online. With spotlight songs like Divide, Superstition and Surrender you are going to love it.

Check out the photos from our Rockin Ryan of their set:

budderside

I am so excited to announce the new band, Budderside from one of our favorite vocalists, Patrick Stone. Patrick caught our eye when we saw him perform with Steven Adler’s Adlers Appetite at The Red Devil Lounge in SF a couple years back. He really grabbed our attention with his powerful vocals and a stage presence that made him the ideal frontman.

His new band, Budderside will feature Patrick Stone,  Rich Sacco, and Michael Stone. It is still in the early stages but check out the video teaser which will get you ready to rock! I can’t wait to hear more and one thing is for sure, it is going to fuckin ROCK!

So make sure to visit his Facebook page so you can stay up to date on the latest Budderside news. I am hoping their will be some shows coming up here to Northern California soon!

If you don’t already have it, pick up their EP, Live Evil. “‘Live Evil’ is “a collection of songs based on our experiences in the last two years, covering everything from a close friend’s imprisonment for a victim-less crime to the realization of humanity’s demise to the contrast between good and evil and life and death,” says drummer Trevor Cobb.

If there’s anything we would like people to take away from the record, it’s that you should be your own person, do what makes you happy, be aware of your world and be real. We have the power to control our own destiny. Together, we are more powerful than any world leader.”

Make sure to visit their social media sites and stay up to date on their latest news. I will leave you with a video of their performance during Calgary’s Metal Fest.

ionia

It is so easy to lose touch with a friend or lose a connection with someone or something that made an impact on you. Life gets busy, we have obstacles to overcome and sometimes it just simply happens. But remember that feeling when you reconnect with that someone special or pull out your favorite cassette tape from the past and your passion is renewed in an instant? That is exactly how I feel right now as I have rekindled my love for Ionia.

I first came across Ionia as they performed with Smile Empty Soul back in May of 2012. I remember being completely blown away by them and I picked up their CD and played it the whole long ride home from Sacramento. Time passed and unfortunately with my busy schedule, I didn’t stay connected to their music. But that won’t happen again.

New York City Rockers, Ionia have released an epic cinematic video for their song, They Look Like Big Strong Hands Don’t They and it is well deserving of your time and attention. The song is absolutely captivating as the emotionally driven lyrics just seem to reach out to you and pick you up from where ever you have been or whatever you are struggling with. It is stellar and will take you on a musical journey of emotions, leading you right to where you belong. Their music will feed your soul. Check out the video here:

The song is their second single off Captain Humility and you can pick up it up on iTunes. Ionia are currently in the studio recording their new EP, Postcards From The Edge: Chapter 1. Delta 32, with Mike Sapone (Brand NewTaking Back Sunday) which I am very excited about.

Make sure to check out Ionia, this is one band that truly cares about their fans, the world we live in and how to make it a better place.  I will leave you with their video for Captain Humility. Now that I have renewed my connection with Ionia, maybe it is time to reach out to those people in my life that I have lost touch with.
