We have had the great pleasure of seeing New Years Day nearly half a dozen times in just the last couple years and on Wednesday we saw them once again as they returned to the Ace of Spades as they are out on tour with The Birthday Massacre.  New Years Day have the knack of putting on a whole of a performance every time and this time, I believe they outdid themselves. They were absolutely on point the entire night with energy abound and truly reaching a peak of perfection with their music.

Ash Costello is truly an amazing vocalist and artist, her stage presence captivates the crowd and she invites them to join in her in singing the songs. The audience was fully engaged from start to finish. Anthony is a madman on bass and you he has great powerful backing vocals. Nikki Misery is absolutely stellar in his fierce guitar shredding as he is bouncing around the stage with leaps and jumps that will have your eyes wide open.

Nick Rossi unleashes his adrenaline as he turns into beast mode on the drums, delivering precision drumming with every beat. With the addition of Tyler Burgess on guitar, he appears to be the perfect match for the energy that this band brings out. He was wild on stage and together they created an intense level of excitement that I haven’t seen in a while. Check out the photos from our Rockin Ryan of their set:

We had the opportunity to chat with New Years Day shortly before their set and we will be bringing that interview to you later this weekend. For now, make sure to check the remaining dates of the tour and don’t miss them when they are coming to a venue near you.  If you don’t already have it, I would strongly encourage you to pick up their latest EP, EPIDEMIC. The EP really displays the great musicianship of this band and how they have evolved through their sound. They really bring out the passion in their songs as well as when they perform live. This is a band that speaks volumes of truth in their music and give you a good dose of hard ROCK at the same time.

We loved it when they came to Slim’s in San Francisco on the We Love Tour featuring Combichrist and William Control. They delivered a high energy intense set that had the crowd in awe. I think they set a record for crowd surfing during a set at Slim’s which rarely tolerates. It was probably the most energetic crowd that I have witnessed at their performances, full on mosh pit, crowd participation and infectious passion raging through the crowd. Check out the slideshow of photographs by our Rockin Ryan from their SF show:

ionia

It is so easy to lose touch with a friend or lose a connection with someone or something that made an impact on you. Life gets busy, we have obstacles to overcome and sometimes it just simply happens. But remember that feeling when you reconnect with that someone special or pull out your favorite cassette tape from the past and your passion is renewed in an instant? That is exactly how I feel right now as I have rekindled my love for Ionia.

I first came across Ionia as they performed with Smile Empty Soul back in May of 2012. I remember being completely blown away by them and I picked up their CD and played it the whole long ride home from Sacramento. Time passed and unfortunately with my busy schedule, I didn’t stay connected to their music. But that won’t happen again.

New York City Rockers, Ionia have released an epic cinematic video for their song, They Look Like Big Strong Hands Don’t They and it is well deserving of your time and attention. The song is absolutely captivating as the emotionally driven lyrics just seem to reach out to you and pick you up from where ever you have been or whatever you are struggling with. It is stellar and will take you on a musical journey of emotions, leading you right to where you belong. Their music will feed your soul. Check out the video here:

The song is their second single off Captain Humility and you can pick up it up on iTunes. Ionia are currently in the studio recording their new EP, Postcards From The Edge: Chapter 1. Delta 32, with Mike Sapone (Brand NewTaking Back Sunday) which I am very excited about.

Make sure to check out Ionia, this is one band that truly cares about their fans, the world we live in and how to make it a better place.  I will leave you with their video for Captain Humility. Now that I have renewed my connection with Ionia, maybe it is time to reach out to those people in my life that I have lost touch with.

We brought you our coverage of Asking Alexandria as they made a stop in San Francisco for The Moving On Tour. Now, we can’t wait to tell you about the opening band out on the tour, The Family Ruin. We have been featuring this amazing rock band from the UK all year long. We brought you our review of their kick ass album, Dearly Departed which was released in September and we couldn’t wait to finally catch them perform live.

One thing is for sure, they delivered an amazing kick ass set at the Regency Ballroom. I love it when a band that I really enjoy listening to can match the same intensity of their music as they do live on stage. This is one band that definitely has no problem conquering that battle. They blew me away and had me eagerly wanting to see them again soon! Check out more photos of their set by our Rockin Ryan:

From the moment they hit the stage and until they walked off to greet fans at their merch booth, they captivated the crowd with their high energy rock. To get to see them perform live my favorites from their album like Let’s Go, Let It Burn, and Bring Out Your Dead. The crowd quickly fell in love with them and you know that many concert goers left with The Family Ruin being their new favorite band!

Last night was a rainy one in San Francisco but inside the Regency Ballroom you found a crowd of even more soaked fans. These fans were drenched in sweat as they had spent the night moshing, crowd surfing and just releasing every ounce of energy. Asking Alexandria was just as fierce on the stage, reciprocating with their own adrenaline filled set that left everyone Breathless! What a fantastic night. As you know, Asking Alexandria are one of our favorite bands and when they perform live, it is as you have been shocked by a defibrillator. You receive the right amount of electric dose of energy to bring you back to life.

The 14 song setlist included songs from all their albums and the crowd went wild for each and every song, whether they were singing along to Moving On, fist pounding to Not The American Average, or intensely moshing to The Prophecy or To The Stage.  What I love about this band, is that each and every one of them has insurmountable stage presence that combined delivers a spectacular set.

Check out the photos from our Rockin Ryan of their set:

Just in time for you to pick it up for Christmas and make sure to get one for everyone on your list! “At long last, we are FINALLY releasing our first ever DVD,” says guitarist BEN BRUCE. “We have been promising this DVD for a long time now, but trust me when I say it was worth the wait. Like Moths to Flames is one band that I have been waiting to catch live and last night, they lived up to and exceeded every expectation I had. These guys have such intense passion that shines right through their hardcore music. You can’t stand still as their energy charges the venue and ignites the crowd into a mosh/circle pit frenzy amid the continuous crowd surfing fans.

The Monster Energy Outbreak made a well deserved stop in Sacramento at the Ace of Spades and it was a night full of kick ass music. What was really special about the night was that each band had a great turnout of dedicated fans and you could definitely see that Like Moths to Flames had a really strong fanbase. It seemed that everywhere I turned, I could see fans proudly wearing their  LMTF shirts and merch. It is great to see the fans continuing to support their favorite bands and for getting out to a live show. It was a packed house and another sold out show.

Check out the photos from our Rockin Ryan of their set:

Going through concert announcements a few weeks ago, I spotted William Control playing in Munich. Unfortunately not a headliner tour, but some acts you just need to see live any opportunity you can get. It was William Control’s first time in Germany with this project. Last time was seven years ago with Aiden.

That evening he opened for Combichrist. As it is common in Munich and probably some others places too, the room’s not really crowded, when the opening act gets on stage. I couldn’t say how many people really heard of William Control before. If they’d known more about him, there definitely would’ve been more people at the beginning of his show.

DSC_0153

He started the set with ‘All due restraint’ from the 2010 released album ‘Noir’. Throughout the show he played songs from all his albums ‘Novus Ordo seclorum’, ‘Hate culture’ and ‘Neuromancer’. William was constantly moving around on stage, throwing and catching his mic or circling it around his neck. No standstill whatsoever. It’s fun to watch and the songs he chose invited the audience to sing along, which they even did at some point (not really loud, but I saw them singing) and believe me, the audience of this city is really hard to get that far, esp. when they’re just introduced to someone that night.  I’d have loved to hear much more, but you always meet twice in life, so there I’m hoping for a 2nd time. Hopefully in 2015! I missed the song ‘Illuminator’ that evening, in fact one of my fave songs of the current record ‘Neuromancer’. All in due time I guess.

William was at the merch table after the show to talk to fans, autograph stuff and take pictures. Chances to meet bands after the shows are rare these days, so it was really nice he took some time to hang out.

European tour ends December 20th after an almost two-month period.

Set-list:

  • All due restraint
  • Beautiful Loser
  • Strangers
  • Price we pay
  • New world order
  • Revelator
  • Razors Edge
  • I’m only human sometimes

Don Vedda, is a young self taught multi-instrumentalist whom has performed with Jamie’s Elsewhere, Casino Madrid, Oceans and most recently as lead guitarist for Dev. His most recent solo project is garnering a lot of praise and well deserved attention. He has just released a music video for his song, Love at First Sight. It is a great song featured on his debut EP and truly captures the lusty and love attraction that we have all experienced at one time. Check out the video here:

Don explains about the video, “I’m really happy with how the video came out and I had a blast hanging out with my band, babes, and friends! I have never been a frontman before so it was a new experience and I spent most of the shoot trying not to laugh my ass off.”

His self titled debut EP was recorded and produced by Brian Grider in Los Angeles CA. Don‘s deep appreciation of music shines through his six songs as they take you on a musical journey highlighting influences of rock, pop, metal, blues and much more.
