Going through concert announcements a few weeks ago, I spotted William Control playing in Munich. Unfortunately not a headliner tour, but some acts you just need to see live any opportunity you can get. It was William Control’s first time in Germany with this project. Last time was seven years ago with Aiden.

That evening he opened for Combichrist. As it is common in Munich and probably some others places too, the room’s not really crowded, when the opening act gets on stage. I couldn’t say how many people really heard of William Control before. If they’d known more about him, there definitely would’ve been more people at the beginning of his show.

He started the set with ‘All due restraint’ from the 2010 released album ‘Noir’. Throughout the show he played songs from all his albums ‘Novus Ordo seclorum’, ‘Hate culture’ and ‘Neuromancer’. William was constantly moving around on stage, throwing and catching his mic or circling it around his neck. No standstill whatsoever. It’s fun to watch and the songs he chose invited the audience to sing along, which they even did at some point (not really loud, but I saw them singing) and believe me, the audience of this city is really hard to get that far, esp. when they’re just introduced to someone that night.  I’d have loved to hear much more, but you always meet twice in life, so there I’m hoping for a 2nd time. Hopefully in 2015! I missed the song ‘Illuminator’ that evening, in fact one of my fave songs of the current record ‘Neuromancer’. All in due time I guess.

William was at the merch table after the show to talk to fans, autograph stuff and take pictures. Chances to meet bands after the shows are rare these days, so it was really nice he took some time to hang out.

European tour ends December 20th after an almost two-month period.

Set-list:

  • All due restraint
  • Beautiful Loser
  • Strangers
  • Price we pay
  • New world order
  • Revelator
  • Razors Edge
  • I’m only human sometimes

Los Angeles/London based gothic rock band, Die So Fluid have released another video featuring the song, Nightmares which is on their new album, The Opposites of Light. Die So Fluid explain about the song, “Nightmares” is the epic opening track on our new album The Opposites Of Light. It’s about a battle between good and evil, recognising and confronting a negative force and moving it on. It’s dark imagery lends itself to the horror themed video we created for it. We will be promoting The Opposites Of Light on the road in the US January onwards. Watch our social media for imminent announcements!” Check it out here:

“Maybe you can turn yourself into a force strong enough to be the one haunting the dreams of your nemesis”.Grog says about the song. I love this track and the sound of Die So Fluid. This power trio have successfully blended everything from punk, metal and rock influences and have created their own unique style of music.

Los Angeles/London based gothic rock band, Die So Fluid are set to release a new album, The Opposites of Light in the US later this year. To get you revved up for it, check out the music video they just released for their track, Landslides which is off the forthcoming album. . Check out the video here:

Landslides’ is a track from the darker, more introspective side of our new album ‘The Opposites Of Light’. The song is about intense desire and loyalty. The video is an emotional and psychedelic trip into a shamanic desert scene highlighting the dream-time qualities of the song. The lyrics were partly inspired by my fascination with Carlos Castaneda, a kind of cult leader who wrote books about shamanism. Narrated in first person, they have sold millions but some critics say they’re works of fiction. He had three female followers who lived with him, changed their names, and cut off ties to family and the outside world. They mysteriously disappeared after his own death. The remains of one of these women was found in Death Valley near where her abandoned car had been discovered. I directed this video myself and used a Go Pro camera that a very generous Die So Fluid fan gave me. We filmed it at the magical Vasquez Rocks where Star Trek was shot, I’m lucky to live nearby. I just let the ancient land speak to me and the visions flow. Grog (Die So Fluid)

Stay tuned for more album news and check out the tour dates in Finland for September:

Los Angeles/London based gothic rock band, Die So Fluid are set to release a new album in the US later this year. To get you revved up for it, check out the music video for their song, Black Blizzard which will be on the forthcoming album. The video was directed by David Kenny and has a great dark cinematic style that grabs you. Check out the video here:

Black Blizzard was inspired by the Dust Bowl tragedy of the 1930s. It’s referred to as a natural disaster but it was caused by man. Nature is wild and untamable, and my character in the video is the storm personified-bringing wrath after she has been abused and disrespected. – Grog (Die So Fluid)

The song highlights the powerful vocals of Grog and is rich in tones and excellent use of the exotic and Middle Eastern sounds. I love it’s dramatic effect and I look forward to the new album.

William Control

We recently brought you our review of William Control‘s spectacular album, The Neuromancer. You can check that out  our album review here. The album has been having great success, The Neuromancer which is a prelude previous works; Hate CultureNoir and Silentium Amoris and all tell the tale of the nihilistic suicidal William Control.  If you don’t have it yet, pick it up…. Three Words….. Cinematic Musical Masterpiece! Today William released a music video for his second single off the album and is Price We Pay. Check it out here:

William just finished up The We Love Tour with Combichrist and New Years Day. We had the chance to catch him as he played at Slim’s in San Francisco. William came out to a packed crowd at Slim’s and delivered a full intense high energy set that had everyone dancing around in musical bliss. He was incredible as his charismatic personality held the audience captive and his vocals filled mesmerized the crowd. His stage presence is one of the best and through his performance you are whisked away on the melodic journey of William Control. Everyone in the crowd was on their feet, responding to his every command as we danced and sang along to every song. Ash Costello of New Year’s Day came out and performed a couple songs with William and it was one amazing night in San Francisco.  It was truly magical and I can’t wait for his return this Fall.

We had the chance to chat with William before his set and are pleased to bring you that interview here:

William Control

What began as a side project of Wil Francis as he embarked to create an outlet of music which was quite different than that of Aiden. With that, William Control was born and I am glad that it grew with a magical life of it’s own and became his focus, hence I will refer to Wil Francis as William Control.

William Control

Out NOW! The release of William Control‘s latest album, Neuromancer. If you are familiar with William Control, this album is the prelude to his previous works; Hate CultureNoir and Silentium Amoris which all tell the tale of the nihilistic suicidal William Control. It all started with Hate Culture where the young man embarks on a last night of sex, sin and debauchery before he attempts to kill himself. How did this man get this way? What brought him to that edge? What is his story of how he became the screw up that he is?  Well, that is where Neuromancer comes in. This album is a prelude to Hate Culture and you are able to really get to know the inner works and thoughts of the William Control character.

What you are treated to is the exceptional songwriting of William as he takes you into the realms of dark romanticism through his darkwave/ electronica goth music.  It truly creates a cinematic tale through the dark tones, captivating synth work, scintillating electro beats and vocals that could quite possibly give you shivers. William’s voice can take you from vulnerable, seductive, powerful, commanding, despair to bliss. He has such an amazing depth of range through his tones that he paints a picture with his words.

The album starts off with a spoken word introduction as you prepare to join William on his journey. Adore has great dark tones as William professes his love for a woman, a love so deep that he is just trapped in her. He can’t escape, nor does he want to, he wants to be with her wholly and needs her acceptance. The album continues to take you on how he begins down the dark path that led him to that night in Hate Culture. Illuminator has a haunting choir and then transitions into a faster catchy electro beat and then features Andy Biersack (Black Veil Brides) as he narrates the story.

Passengers is a deep dark ballad on the piano that highlights William’s mesmerizing vocals. The emotionally driven lyrics create a feel as if his heart has been cut open and it’s his love and feelings are bleeding through. It is one of my favorite songs on the album. Where the Angels Burn is another favorite as it brings the story/album to an end with vocals that highlight loneliness and despair. The song ends with the character’s spoken word declaration for his love and creates such a haunting vibe that is intensely moving! It makes me want to start the album all over again.

It is a story that I want you to experience for yourself. Each song can be played individually and enjoyed on it’s own musical merit. With music reminiscent of early Depeche Mode, Sisters of Mercy or New Order, William in no way imitates, since he has created his own unique style that I have grown to love. There is no denying the excellent songwriting of Wil Francis as he brings to life William Control through his words and music.  I would hope that you listen to the album from start to finish and enjoy the cinematic musical masterpiece which is Neuromancer.

So, make sure to pick up your copy of Neuromancer and also check the tour dates below so you can catch William Control live on The WE Love Tour with Combichrist and New Years Day. We hope to bring you an interview with William Control from the upcoming San Francisco show.

Davey Suicide

Last night was the first night of William Control’s “Revel Without a Cause” Tour.  Day 1 kicked off at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco. First up was a great band from England, Fearless Vampire Killers and you can read more about them here.

Next up was the shock rock act of Davey Suicide. They were playing in the upstairs of the DNA Lounge which always brings such challenges for bands with limited space and sound qualities. In addition this being the first night of the tour, they have yet to iron out the kinks in their set but that in no way stopped them from delivering a 150% performance. Their dark atmospheric rock n roll wrapped in fine tuned electronics and engaging lyrics had everyone fired up and ready for more. Davey Suicide is on Vocals, Drayven Davidson kills it on drums, Ashes tears it up on guitar and Brent Ashley plays some crunchy bass and provides backing vocals. You can check out a Tribute Video that Rockin Ryan  made which includes photos and footage from last night’s set:

They played songs off of their self titled debut album that brings everything from industrial, punk anthems, heavy metal, melodic acoustics. There is something in their for your every mood. You can pick up their album DAVEY SUICIDE on Itunes here.   Also when you do, make sure to buy the full album or you just might be missing what may become your favorite song. The whole album is a complete music gem.

You can check out Davey Suicide as they continue on the “Revel Without a Cause” Tour.  Upcoming tour dates are listed below as well as their social media links. Make sure to check them out and stay up to date on their latest news. Also remember as Davey says, “The name SUICIDE is a constant reminder that unless we kill ourselves, there is no ceiling for what we are capable of.”   You can also check out their video for “Kids of America” which is a KICK ASS song!

Fearless Vampire Killers

Last night was the first night of William Control’s “Revel Without a Cause” Tour. Their first show was held upstairs at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco. Opening for William Control, was British theatrical Alternative Rock band Fearless Vampire Killers, and it was my first time seeing them. They were amazing. This was their first show ever in the United States and they really won over the crowd instantly. Fearless Vampire Killers are Kier Kemp and Laurence Beveridge (co-vocalists), Cyrus Barrone (guitar), Drew Woolnough (bass) and Luke Illingworth (drums).

Playing upstairs at the DNA lounge, always provides quite a bit of challenges for the band with space and sound, not to mention being the first night of their tour. So usually the first night is when you iron all the kinks out.  But that didn’t matter to these five guys. They came out and performed with fierce intensity and their songs pumped the crowd right up.  You can describe their look as a blend of steam punk with gothic and horror punk, whatever you call it, they pull it off well.  Not to mention, the energy that they deliver is infectious! They have two vocalists and Kier reminds me of Shimon Moore of Sick Puppies and Laurence reminds me of Robert Smith of The Cure. Two of my favorite singers and you can’t go wrong with that combination. Here are some photos from last night’s show:

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

They currently have out a 5 song EP, Exposition: The Five Before the Flames that is available on Itunes. You can also pick up their older albums on Itunes  which include their concept album as well as their music for Grandomina, the fictional world that chronicles their music. It is an amazing work of art that deserves your attention. Also stay tuned, because William Control produced their upcoming second full length album. Here is a tribute video that Rockin Ryan put together from the photos and footage of the show:

So check out these guys and if you can get to one of their upcoming shows, GO! You will really love them.  Tour dates are listed below for the “Revel Without a Cause” Tour. We will try and bring you an interview with this exciting new band in the next two weeks.  I will leave you with the video for their new song, “All Hallows Evil” that is available now as well as some video from last night’s show.
