Tom Keifer has been quite busy touring in support of his highly acclaimed solo record, The Way Life Goes. If you don’t already have it, do yourself a big favor and pick it up. It is filled with rockin tracks featuring his beloved signature vocals and emotionally driven lyrics. It truly takes you on a musical journey highlighting emotions and heart felt songs while satisfying your need for rock.
Tom recently played at the Whisky a GoGo in Hollywood last month. This was a show that we had anticipated for months and were so excited for. Unfortunately, with my mother’s health taking a bit of quick turn, we stayed close to home. Our colleague Linda Emord of Eye Shutter 4 U made it out to the show and check out her photos from his spectacular set:

Last week we had a very special update, we chatted via Skype with vocalist/guitarist Archie Cruz of the Finnish rock band, Santa Cruz. This is one band that we have been listening to for a few years now. They are from Helsinki, Finland and have a sound that will take you right back to the Sunset Strip circa ‘1980s with the exception that the music is even more adrenaline filled and fuckin rocks hard!!! We spoke to Archie to talk about their recent announcement that they will be making their US debut at The Webster Hall in New York City on December 12th. We needed to find out more about this trip and hopefully beg for news of any California dates!!! Well, check out our chat below and see what is new and exciting with Santa Cruz:
One thing is for sure, whether you are reliving your love of ’80s rock or are of today’s youth and are looking for some REAL ROCK n ROLL, Santa Cruz is the answer for all your listening pleasure. They are pure ear porn with no guilt! Their songs have epic guitar solos, shredding fierce riffs, amazing liquidy bass, fast heart-beating drums, and vocals that will strip you clean of your clothes in no time. Last night we headed to the DNA Lounge in San Francisco to see State Line Empire as they were opening for Skid Row. The place was packed and The Devil in California opened the night with a solid set and then came State Line Empire for a ROCKIN set, and up next was Black Star Riders (Thin Lizzy) and headliner Skid Row closed out the night with a bang!
State Line Empire sounded great as they started off the set with a crowd favorite, Load Em Up. One thing is for sure, this band is never short on energy and they have an infectious rock vibe that spread through the crowd. If anyone arrived not knowing who State Line Empire were, they left that night being a devoted fan. They finished their set with another one of my favorites, Drive Me. Their set list for the night was:
Load em up
Into Pieces
Your Someone Else’s Problem Now
Know My Name
Lock & Load
Cross That Line
Raise Your Sins
Break Me Down
Drive Me
Check out the slide show of photos by Rockin Ryan from their set:

In case you missed the show, you can catch State Line Empire this Saturday at the Whisky-A-GoGo as they will be opening once more for Skid Row. We saw State Line Empire perform earlier this year at the Whisky for one of their 50th Anniversary shows along with Fault Line, Jetboy and Faster Pussycat. They were awesome and the sound system at the Whisky has been upgraded and just as in January, expect to hear a fantastic show. Check out their performance of Drive Me here:
You can check out a tribute video that Rockin Ryan put together for State Line Empire that includes footage and photos from their last shows.
If you don’t have it yet, make sure to pick up their new EP “Raise Your Sins”, available on Itunes. They just have everything you are looking for in a rock and roll band with a hint of metal strewn right in. You can read more about their EP review we did in September here. Their new EP is filled with rockin hits and it is a bit heavier but also just enough old school touches to keep everyone happy. Visit their social media sites and stay up to date so you won’t miss any State Line Empire news.

Our favorite local band, Faith and Bullets tore up the stage as they made their Sunset Strip debut at The Whisky a GoGo this past Friday night. We were there for the show and wouldn’t have missed it. We first featured Faith and Bullets on our Thirsty Thursdays a feature about bands who are thirsty for ROCK and the power to make it happen! This band is definitely dedicated and one of the hardest working band out here in the area. All that hard work has paid off for them as they made down to their first of what I am sure to be, shows in Hollywood. Here is our interview with Faith and Bullets from the Whisky a Go Go:
Faith and Bullets have a sound that blends old 80′s rock like Motley Crue, Kiss, Poison, and Dokken with what I call “80′s on replay rock” like Crashdiet, Black Veil Brides, and Reckless Love. You have Stevie Mayhem on vocals who not only delivers incredible 80’s inspired vocals but has an amazing stage presence as well. Rikk Alexander on lead guitar is fierce on his Ibanez guitar and and smokes away the solos! Across the stage you have Cody Sparkz wielding his guitar in the air as he plays rhythm. You are then treated to the infectious bass groove that Abel Lynch delivers. Wrapping it all up and completing the perfect sound is Ryan McKinley on drums as he smiles away with his precision drumming. These five young guys gave the crowd at the Whisky what they have been searching for….. Straight up Rock n Roll from start to finish. These guys not only have the talent but also the rock and roll look and to top it all off, they each have charismatic personalities. Definitely the whole package!
They engaged the crowd as they played their original songs and a few covers. It was awesome to see not only the crowd but the staff and crew rockin out as well. They started off their set with the perfect song, Darker Side of Me. It has a suspenseful build-up intro that is perfect as Stevie stepped out of the shadows on the stairs into the spotlight at The Whisky. The song is an energetic and intense rock song! They also did a great job playing Motley Crue’s Looks That Kill and then had everyone singing along to Poison’s Talk Dirty to Me. They performed two new songs in their set, Can’t Stop Me Now and Revolution. Can’t Stop Me Now is a true rock and roll anthem and after talking with the band, their pursuit of rock and roll is the inspiration behind the track. They also performed another great track, Better Off Alone. Revolution is a song to call all rock and rollers to join the cause and keep Rock Alive!! With a band like Faith and Bullets, there is no shortage of great rock music. Check out the slideshow of Rockin Ryan’s photos from the night here:
