Today we put the spotlight on the hard working modern rock band from Milwaukee that is known as Circleswitch. These four guys are not a new band but it is time that everyone knows about them. They are like a hidden rock gem that I have recently discovered and now I want to share the great treasure with you.

Circleswitch is:

  • Kenny James -Vocals
  • Danny Rodic -guitars, back up vocals
  • Johnny RockIt Wahlen – Bass
  • Eddie Gunz -Drums

Their sound can be described as modern rock with a side of metal and old school rock. The bring a fresh new sound to melodic hard rock by creating their own unique style and not falling in to the patterns of the genre lines of today. They are straight up rock n roll with fierce guitars, crunchy basslines, precision drumming and vocals that are straight up powerful with a gravelly grunge attitude! Check out a couple of their music videos here, watch them in order so you can see the story of Butch unfold.

Make sure to visit their social media sites and stay up to date on their latest news. I am hoping they make it out to California soon, we need some Circleswitch. If you happen to be in the Milwaukee area, I hope you get yourself to their upcoming show on September 27th in Cudahy, WI at the The Metal Grill. They will be playing with another of our favorite bands, The Last Vegas.

Modern rockers Red Tide Rising from Denver, Colorado have released a video for their song, The Otherside which is off their new album, The Rising. “The Otherside” was filmed and directed by Mel Haynes, Jr  and shot in a warehouse  in Denver.  The video also features the debut of new bass player, Michael LeBois.  Check out the video here:

This young band which formed in 2007 when the members were still in junior high, has really proven that their hard work and determination has taken them into a whole new level with this album. The band’s sound has grown and they have honed in on their craft to deliver a strong solid album. They have been getting a lot of attention and have been touring alongside great bands like In This Moment, Hatebreed and others. The album The Rising was produced by Mike McAree (In This Moment) and Jeff Kanan (Kelly Clarkson, Madonna, Randy Jackson, Staind, more), debuted on Billboard’s Heatseeker charts at #3.

You can pick up The Rising on iTunes here. The vocals immediately draw you in and the guitars will have you rocking out. It is a fierce new album and I hope you get a chance to check it out.

1982… For me… what a year… Freshman/Sophmore year at the all girls Catholic School Notre Dame in Belmont, California. I begged to go to the local public school after going to private uniform schools for the past 8 years but no luck…. So the best part is I remember we had MTV. We had just got it and I was glued to it the fist couple weekends that we had it. I remember we were vacationing at the house we rented every summer in Lake Tahoe and we got up there and they had the MTV channel. My whole world changed!! It happened to be the weekend where they spent most of it broadcasting Todd Rundgren Utopia concert but I got enough music videos to beg my Father to get it for us when we got back. Upon returning, our area was the new recipients of MTV and it gave me all the entertainment that I needed.  So here is my Top Twenty Music Videos from 1982.

20. Eye of the Tiger – Survivor

19. Only the Lonely  – the Motels

18 Centerfold – J. Geils Band

17. Don’t You Want Me – Human League

16. Come On Eileen Dexys Midnight Runners

15. Shake it UP – The Cars

14. Rick Springfield – Don’t Talk to Strangers

13. Beat It – Michael Jackson

12. Who Can it Be Now – Men at Work

11. Heat of the Moment – Asia

10. Mony, Mony – Billy Idol

9.  You Can Do Magic – America

8. Caught up in You – 38 Special

7. I ran (So Far Away) – A Flock of Seagulls

6. I Love it Loud – KISS

5. Goodbye to You – Patty Smith

4 Young Turks – Rod Stewart

3. Rock the Casbah – The Clash

2. I love Rock n Roll – Joan Jett & the Blackhearts

1. I think I’m in Love – Eddie Money

Now that is a list that I can watch over and over!!! Tell me what your favorite video was from 1982. Lastly is my favorite video but I think it came out the year before but I must have watched it over and over and wore out my American Gigolo Vinyl. Here is my all time fave, “Call Me” by Blondie

The 80’s not only had some great Rock and Roll but it also provided a time to enjoy New Wave and Modern Rock music. Well those times are long gone…. But guess what, there is a great new band out there called The Kinected  that is bringing it all back to life, blended with their own unique sound that is taking the airwaves by storm. It is great feel good music that reminds me of the first time I heard Pet Shop Boys or Duran Duran. They have an amazing  sound that is a fresh blend of rock, pop,  funk and an electro edge. There first single “Hypnotize” from their new album titled Evolution #9 has been dominating airplay on XM Sirius Channel 3 “20 on 20”. It will have you moving and wanting more and more!

The Kinected is Ron Anthony on vocals, Alex Zapatier on guitar, Mike B on bass and Marck Mangel on drums. I had the opportunity to interview vocalist Ron Anthony who has such a smooth voice on this album. Here is a bit of that interview:

Music Junkie Press:        We have heard about how you are all so unique and wanted to know how you all got together to form the band?

Ron:         Well, let’s see. I don’t know if you are aware but  Michael the bass player happens to be my brother so we met at birth,   Alex  the guitar player is my cousin so we have known each other for a long time and the drummer Marck is a very,  very good friend of ours. We met Marck a couple years ago and were getting together and just started jamming out and it evolved to what is now The Kinected.  But a majority of the band is family.

Music Junkie Press:        We understand that you released in February your debut album, “Evolution #9″ and I had the pleasure of listening to it,  and it has a fresh  style of music with a great blend.  What could you tell us about this new album?

Ron:           Thank you, thank you very much! We appreciate that. Evolution #9 is exciting for us. It is like a first child for us. We spent a solid amount of time on it. I think what we have taken from this is the ability to understand in a studio how to work with each other. But as far as the music, it is really a sincerer blend of our biggest influences with which we have grown up  on and what we love. We are all classic musician artists at heart. We love the Beatles, the Stones, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, but as a keyboard player I love the New Wave, 80’.  I love Depeche Mode, The Cure, Duran, Duran. We recorded this in my studio and we produced it and engineered it ourselves so I had a little bit of room to kind of get the 80s synth world vibe with what Alex brings with his guitars. So it is really kind of a blend of some of our biggest influences along with lyrics that we can all relate to form our personal experiences in our lives. It was cool and we were really happy with the way it came together. We are really excited to get it out there.

Music Junkie Press:        Your music brings a positive energy. You can feel the passion and intensity that all you guys put into this music. S many people talk about how music changes their mood and can help  them through times. Your music brings that positive element to the listener. How old were you when you started getting the music bug?

Ron:        My first piano lesson was when I was six years old. I have been doing it for a little bit of time and as I got older I started  experimenting more with the keyboards because it allowed me to have an outlet other than just the piano and experiment with different sounds. I got really into studying and listening to bands like Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and Fire and Herbie Hancock. Studying them and understanding some of that synth and analog world and it intrigued me. From that I went on to build my studio,  and writing and producing so I have been doing it for quite a while since I was six.

Music Junkie Press:       From where you are today with all your life experiences, what would your advice be to your 14 year old self?

Ron:        If I could advise my old self at 14 I would probably say to him to not get so preoccupied with a million other things.  When I was 14 I wanted to do what the average 14 year old did which is good. You need to be social and do that. But, in school I wanted to do everything . I wanted to be on the baseball team, I wanted to hang out with all the girls in my grade, video games, parties, and everything. If I could go back I would have wanted to utilize more of that time knowing what I do now and put it towards a goal in music and a central focus. But also, I would just say play away because there are so many people who like to be critics and criticize and have an opinion on what to do with your music when you are 14 or even now. I think you just need to stay focused  and stay true to what you want to do and what your vision is. It is very easy to be swayed at that age so just be true to yourself.

Music Junkie Press:         That is great advice. With the 80’s and 90’s making a comeback, if you could pick a song from the 80s or 90s to describe your life what would that be?

Ron:       That is a hard question. Lyrically, I would need time to answer that. But if it was to be a band that I connected with growing up, I would have to say U2. I have always admired U2 and what the band did and what Bono sung about. Maybe Bad by U2. That is probably one of the songs growing up that inspired me the most and lyrically I still think I connect with it. So if I had to say really quick, it is  Bad by U2.

Music Junkie Press:         We are definitely going to spread the word out about The Kinected. We will post all your links so everyone can get to know your music and hopefully get you all out here on the West Coast soon. We will get the links to your Facebook and website pages and Itunes so they can download Hypontize and the whole album.

Ron:         Yes, that would be great. We manage all of our social networking sites so we would like to have people come check us and leave us a message. It is spelled KINECTED,   the band name was a combination of a couple words we really liked which is Kinetic and connection. So a lot of people ask us about how to spell it. So have everyone shoot us a message and we look forward to responding to everyone.

*******************************

So make sure to check out The Kinected’s album Evolution No. 9 and I think you will thoroughly enjoy it. Hypnotize is now #5 on the XM Sirius Channel 3 for the 20 on 20. “Money” is another great song that I am sure you will fall in love with and will be getting a lot of play on the dance floor. This album has a little something for everyone and you can really hear their influences shine through their music. If you have a chance head over to their facebook page and connect with them!

If you live in Florida, make sure to head out to one of their shows on their upcoming tour. They are not to be missed. Here is a link for their Florida shows.  I will leave you with a teaser for their single “Hypnotize” which I can’t wait to see the full version.   (Update… Here is the full version video to replace the teaser.. 8/28/12)
