Korn released their single, Hater which is off their forthcoming album, The Paradigm Shift: World Tour Edition and has been garnering a lot of great attention and praise. You can pick up The Paradigm Shift on iTunes here. The song is currently in the Top 15 on the Active Rock Chart. Korn had invited fans to help in the making of the video by sharing their story of dealing with a bully. The video which was directed by Yarvo Productions was released today and it is awesome, check it out:
“Almost everyone has felt bullied, pressured and beat down in their life by their haters,” says Jonathan Davis. “This video helps to give a public voice to some of the challenges real people have faced, and reminds us all that self-harm and suicide.”
Another one of my favorite songs on the album is Never, Never and you can check it out here with a tribute video featuring photos by Rockin Ryan:

The band will use some of the submissions in their upcoming video for “Hater.”
Here are the guidelines for your chance to be featured in an upcoming video:
Film yourself telling a story about a time you were the victim of bullying, abuse, or hatred and how it affected you. Answer the following questions in your video:
What did the bully, abuser, or hater do? List off the things they said or did.
How did it make you feel? List off some of the thoughts and feelings going through your head. Say “I felt…(fill in the blank)”
Here are some things to keep in mind when submitting the video:
Please keep the stories short.
Restate the question into your answer.
Sound is key, so please turn off air conditioning, the television, any music, fans, just your voice as clean as possible

Get ready for another great summer filled with awesome concerts. We will leave you with another tribute video for Korn, this time for Blind.
Now and days many musicians have side projects or are in several bands at the same time. We all remember the time, when side projects could signify a band break up or member replacements but now, it is a welcome change. For many passionate musicians time spent off the road or not recording, can cause them to be a bit stir-crazy. Sometimes you just have to unleash your passion and create the music. I love finding out about new bands whether they are new to the scene, supergroups or a one-off side project. One new supergroup that have successfully harnessed their passion and created a MUST HAVE album, is KXM. KXM is comprised of dUg Pinnick (King’s X), George Lynch (Lynch Mob/Dokken) and Ray Luzier (Korn).
These three guys who were first friends and then decided to make music together have created a band that will definitely want you begging for more. After taking a listen to their self titled debut album, I couldn’t help but get excited for a tour and even more music. Whether they all become busy with their other projects, I truly hope KXM will continue on with many, many more albums to come.
DUg Pinnick on bass and vocals, George Lynch on guitar and Ray Luzier on drums. You may think you are dreaming but it is true. These three legendary artists have fused together their own unique styles and have birthed a sound that will definitely last the test of time which can be relatively short these days in the music scene. This powerhouse trio has an album filled with Lynch signature riffs, Ray’s hard hitting energetic drumming, groove filled basslines and passionate vocals by dUg. The album is being released on Rat Pak Records and was produced by KXM and Chris Collier, who is known for his work with Lynch Mob, Lita Ford and Tommy Bolin and more.
We had the opportunity to chat with dUg about the new band and are pleased to bring it to you here:
Tomorrow is the release date for the KFM album and I hope you all are set out on picking it up. Some of the stand out tracks that will really have you wielding praise are Sleep, Rescue Me, Faith is a Room and Gunfight. So make sure to pick up your copy and let us know which are your favorites. I will leave you with their video for their bad ass single, Rescue Me.

Ben Mitchell has not only been a great friend to all of us here at Music Junkie Press but also is one of hell of a concert goer. We get to run in to him at almost every show we are covering! He also worked with us when we covered the Dir En Grey show in San Francisco and interviewed bassist, Toshiya for us. You can check out that video right here:
Ben has been sharing his Top Ten Albums of 2013 and we are pleased to present them here for you:
I was never a huge Korn fan by any means, but this new album was very impressive. It is their first album welcoming back original guitarist Brian “Head” Welch and the band continues to evolve their sound while keeping its roots. Check out their video for “Never Never”
Big year for SWS. “Feel” reached No. 3 overall on the Billboard charts when it came out….which is HUGE for a band on an independent label. Their fanbase is growing very rapidly. Got to meet the band several this year + they are super cool guys. Album also features guest vocals from MGK, Matty Mullins from Memphis May fire, Fronz from Attila, and Shay from Dayshell. Check out their lead single “Alone” featuring MGK.
#8 Favorite Album of 2013 – “Tracing Back Roots” by We Came As Romans
WCAR has found a successful formula combining clean/unclean vocals and making each song on their albums extremely catchy. The difference between them and the other bands in their genre is that their lyrics actually mean something and reach out to a positive audience. The album also features guest vocals from Aaron Gillespie (The Almost/Underoath). Check out my favorite song off of Tracing Back Roots: “Hope”
#7 Favorite Album of 2013 – “What You Don’t See” by The Story So Far
Here comes your daily dose of Pop-Punk by local heroes TSSF. These guys reside in Walnut Creek and are quite possibly the biggest Bay Area band you haven’t heard of. When they’re not opening for bands like New Found Glory, they are selling out their own shows leading the new wave of pop-punk. Their new album “What You Don’t See” has a ton of energy and is a solid album. Check out their video for “Empty Space” which contains footage by Pier 39!
#6 Favorite Album of 2013 – “The Blackest Beautiful” by letlive.
THE most energetic band in music. I cannot do letlive. justice by describing their live performances. I’m just going to say you HAVE to see them for yourself, and you will thank me that you did. As far as the album goes, it is another solid effort front-to-back jammed-packed with deep lyrical content and catchy riffs. They will be back here in March opening up for Bring Me The Horizon….it will sell out…..so better buy tickets fast! Check out their lead single off of The Blackest Beautiful – “Banshee (Ghost Fame)”
#5 Favorite Album of 2013: “Heart Attack” by Man Overboard
It’s just a plain fun album to listen to. The songs are short and basic, and there are enough of them to keep you satisfied. Rise Records isn’t known for pop-punk, but Man Overboard will be a band that will continue to grow on their label and will hopefully be around a long time. Check out their single, “Where I Left You”
#4 Favorite Album of 2013 – “Legendary” by The Summer Set
Definitely the poppiest + happiest album on my list this year. Some of their songs are cheesy, but the whole album is incredibly catchy nonetheless. It’s been a big year for them as they are starting to become mainstream + even got to open the IHeartRadio concert in Vegas. They are actually doing a mini-acoustic tour playing this entire album. One of those stops is at Bottom of the Hill in SF in February….it will sell out…just saying. Check out their radio hit “Boomerang”
ADTR self-produced this album while in a lawsuit with Victory Records…..it took awhile but they somehow managed to release it, and they did not disapoint! It’s trulya record for their fans and combines their unique sound of pop/punk/hardcore for everyone to enjoy. They even have some great acoustic tracks. One of my favorite bands to see live and one of the most underrated bands in music today. Check out their brand new video for “Right Back At It Again”
Just do yourself a favor and watch all of the music videos Twenty One Pilots have put out this year….you’ll thank me. At one moment you’ll hear rapping, the next you’ll be in the middle of a dance party, and the next moment you will be hearing a serenade. The most energetic 2-piece group I know….they will be headlining big stages very soon. You can count on that! Check out their video for “Car Radio”
Extremely easy choice. Those who know me probably aren’t shocked, but Skillet truly deserves this top spot. Their previous album “Awake” is one of my all-time favorite albums, and I am happy to say that their follow up does not disappoint! “Rise” is an amazing album and has a great combination of rock and pop tracks for every listener to enjoy. They are headlining The Roadshow which stops in San Jose on January 16th! Which means I hope to see a lot of people there. Check out their new video for “Sick Of It”
Great list Ben!! We look forward to what 2014 will bring!
Earlier this month, we brought to you an interview with Ben Draiman, younger brother of David Draiman of Disturbed and Device. During that interview Ben credited Raz Klinghoffer of EarlyRise and how he gave him great advice with his spectacular cover of Disturbed’s “Stricken”. You can read that interview here:
Raz Klinghoffer definitely knows how to do a cover song and make it magical. Raz and his band EarlyRise took Korn’s “Narcissistic Cannibal” and made an incredibly powerful version that is literally breathtaking. Orly Lari’s vocals remind me of a cross between Haley Williams and Cristina Scabbia, two amazing female artists. You can check out the song here:
EarlyRise currently has their debut album, “What If” out and is filled with dynamic songs that bring such depth to their music as they have succeeded in what they set out to do, “set out on a unique journey, mixing the poetic side of music with the edgier side of rock”. It is definitely a CD to treasure, complete with emotionally driven lyrics, energetic melodies, and much more to take you on a ride of emotions.
We recently had the opportunity to interview Raz and are pleased to bring you the interview:

Music Junkie Press:Thank you so much for taking the time out to talk with us at Music Junkie Press. We were first introduced to you via Ben Draiman after we discussed his recent cover “Stricken”. He credits you with the making of “Stricken” after you two discussed cover versions and how to make them 180-degrees different. Ben definitely did that, what do you think of his cover?
RAZ: I really like Ben’s interpretation; he gave it his own sound, which is exactly what covers should be about. It’s an amazing interpretation that will bring the song to a new audience, one that doesn’t necessarily even normally relate to Hard Rock.
Music Junkie Press: You have your own amazing cover of Korn’s Narcissistic Cannibal. How did that one come about?
RAZ: When I first heard Korn’s “Narcissistic Cannibal,” I instantly really liked it. After listening to it for a while, I started imagining how Orly would sound singing it. I suggested we cover the song; fortunately, she was into it. We started experimenting and we recorded a few versions until we came to the final version that we released.
Music Junkie Press: It really is a work of art and you all did such an amazing job! Also what is great about doing a cover is you open yourselves to a whole new audience just by capturing their attention on your cover. After that cover, did you see that big jump in your fan base as well?
RAZ: Well, to be honest, not really. Our fanbase has been growing at a certain rate over the past 3 years because we make an effort to release a new song or video often enough to keep our fans engaged and interested. Because of the way we’ve built up our fanbase, “Narcissistic Cannibal” didn’t move the needle any more than our other singles releases. That said we’re still really proud of it.
Music Junkie Press:Raz, you and Orly make a dynamic writing team. Do you have any specific writing process or song writing ritual?
RAZ: Not really actually: Orly can bring a song with only an idea written on the piano, I can bring an idea on the guitar, or we can each work on an instrumental Ido and I created and then come up with an idea for a melody. Each song is different, mostly because to me it always sounds different depending on how you write it – with a piano, a guitar, a full band instrumental, etc.
Music Junkie Press:We just heard EarlyRise is being featured on the RockSmith 2014 game, what song(s) will you have on there?
RAZ: “Wasteland.” Ubisoft did a great job incorporating our song into the game.
Music Junkie Press: That is going to be great! I think we will have to pick our copy up! Are you currently working on a new album to follow up “What If?”
RAZ:Yes, we are. We currently have around 60 rough demos. So there’s quite a lot to choose from, but we really want this album to be even better than ‘What If.’ Some of our new songs will surprise our fans.
Music Junkie Press: Where are you recording your album?
RAZ:I have my own studio, we are recording it there.
Music Junkie Press: Can you tell us what we can expect from the next album?
RAZ:You can expect the EarlyRise sound from the last record mixed with some bold and deliberate experimentation. We want to continue to evolve, so we’re playing around with some electronic sounds, heavier guitar riffs, etc.. Since we’re in the middle of the recording process, we still don’t know how it will ultimately end up sounding ourselves. We are very excited about what we’ve been working on so far, though, and we can’t wait to share it with our fans.
Music Junkie Press: We at Music Junkie Press have always been strong believers that Music can heal the soul, touch your heart and be there for someone during their hardest times. Do you have a personal story to share where Music was there for you?
RAZ: All I can say is that music is my healer and my drug. It’s not just a hobby, it’s my job. I can’t see my life without it.
Music Junkie Press: One of your songs, Face Me, is just so emotionally empowering, can you tell me more about that song?
RAZ: Actually, Orly wrote that song, so I can’t really speak for her. However, I agree it’s a very empowering song, and a fan favorite.
Music Junkie Press:If I could peak into your iPod, what artist or song might I be most surprised at finding in there?
RAZ:Since I produce music in addition to being EarlyRise’s guitar player, I try to stay updated not just with the Rock scene, but also with what’s going on in other genres. I think the most surprising music you’ll find is Cuban Timba which I really like, I really love the groove of the music.
Music Junkie Press: As a guitar player, how old were you when you first started playing and can you remember what was the first song you learned in its entirety?
RAZ: I was 13, and my first song was “Under the Sun” by Scorpions. My big brother taught me how to play the opening riff.
Music Junkie Press: Will EarlyRise be touring soon? If you could put together your dream lineup with three bands living or dead, who would it be?
RAZ: We are very busy with our second album, so unfortunately we won’t be touring soon, we really want to finish it and release it in early-mid 2014. I think my dream lineup would include the first band I fell in love with, Scorpions, then Megadeth, then Linkin Park. That would be quite a show!
Music Junkie Press: Lastly, is there anything else you would like to share with our audience?
RAZ: I would like to ask our fans to be patient with the release of our second album; we’re working really hard on it and we won’t let you down!
* * * * * * * * * * * * *
We are so excited to hear that EarlyRise is working on the new album and we will keep you posted when we get updates. For now, make sure to visit their social media sites and if you don’t have it yet, pick up their CD, “What If”. Believe me, you will be happy you did! Then let me know which are your favorite songs on it. I will leave you with the lyric video for Oblivious and EarlyRise‘s acoustic version of “Old Friend“.
