Davenport Cabinet which first began as a solo project of Coheed and Cambria guitarist, Travis Stever has grown into a full band endeavor. With the release of their third album, Damned Renegades they have been gaining a lot of well deserved high praises. The album was released on Equal Vision Records and is available through MerchNOW and digital retailers such as iTunes,Amazon and more. Davenport Cabinet have released a lyric video for their song, Aneris off the album. Check it out here:

The album takes you on an amazing musical journey and Stever reveals about the album, “Damned Renegades is a very personal record, lyrically and sonically. My relationship with the album was much like that of a mad scientist and his experiment. While writing it, I was anxiously awaiting becoming a new father and focused all of that excitement and energy into the music. As much as I wanted to just center on preparing for the birth, I felt that I needed to record the music we were creating first. The rest of the Davenport guys very willingly came along with me for the ride, adding in their own music styles and flavors all over the record. The record stretches all over musically, showcasing the diversity that lies within the Cabinet.”

Stever adds, “Damned Renegades finds Davenport Cabinet exactly where I have always wanted it musically. With Tyler, Tom, and Mike, I was able to achieve the full band sound and group interaction I’ve always wanted with the project. I couldn’t be more proud of this record.” It really is a beautiful musical gem of alternative, classic and indie rock that you have to check out.

Davenport Cabinet have announced a couple upcoming shows:

  • Nov 26 Warwick, NY @ Tuscan Café
  • Nov 29 Blairstown, NJ @ Historic Blairstown Theatre

donora2

DONORA is an indie pop/rock trio are set to release their album, Ha Ha Heart on December 9th on Rostrum Records. The first single of the album is a truly upbeat pop gem, Always Gonna Be and is newly released. Check it out here:

I love this new track as it completely embodies the fun spirited energy of  the brother/sister team, Casey and Jack Hanner.  “We didn’t grow up listening to a lot of the same music,” explains Casey, “but when we started writing together, we realized that we approached creating music in the same way.” The brother sister duo also quickly realized that their shared upbringing could translate to solid pop tunes. Their bassits, Jake Churton was added when a keyboardist they had hired couldn’t make it to practice,   “One day the guy we hired to play keyboard couldn’t make it to practice,” remembers Jake H, “So Jake C started playing the lead keyboard lick with his bass. Casey and I just looked at each other and both knew we had found our third member.”

Donora‘s third full-length release on Rostrum Records is titled “Ha Ha Heart“. As the band puts it, this album is about letting go of everything that is holding you back; it’s about celebrating who you are. Casey explains, “We wanted to be as honest as we could be with this album. From the creative process, to the music itself, to the artwork… This is us.

BullyWest, an indie rock band from Oakland may have had to weather a few bumps in the road, but these determined rockers prove that nothing can stand in their way and their need to ROCK! With a sound that blends grunge/rock/alternative/blues/americana and classic rock into their own unique style, they will truly capture your attention. We had the chance to see BullyWest perform at The Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, last Saturday night and they blew us a way. I was bummed to have not heard of them before because it would have insured Music Junkie Press’ presence at their performances!

The band has had to endure through the recent challenge of having thousands of dollars of their gear stolen at a recent show. This in no way, will stop them from forging ahead. Their fans and friends quickly stepped up with support and they held a benefit concert with Iron Heart, Six Gun Saints and other bands performing at Red Hat. They raised some money but still have an upward climb to replace their gear. They have created a GoFundMe campaign and you can check it out here and see how you can help: http://www.gofundme.com/di3a3g.  We had the opportunity to talk with members of the band after their bad ass set at the Phoenix and are pleased to share that with you here:

Their set was really spectacular and had me already thinking about their next show. Manny on guitar and vocals is really mesmerizing, he has a soulful voice that brings back flashbacks of early Chris Cornell. He brings out this great emotion through his songs. Shane on bass is a madman and has a great stage presence, he lays down his bass lines as he is bouncing around his area. Bernt on drums delivered a solid heavy set and you can feel his energy. These guys are great and I can’t wait to catch them again. Check out the photos by our Rockin Ryan of their set:

We were excited to see Walk the Moon as the special guest on Panic! at the Disco The Gospel Tour concert at SJSU this past Thursday. I have been looking forward to catching them live and was so glad I did. This band which has been described as anything from indie to electro-visual, really can be summed up with the following; Music that inspires, invigorates, makes you want to move as you  love and live life in the most positive manner.

These young four musicians have successfully captured inspiration through their music and transfers it so beautifully to the listener. Their indie rock style appeals not only to a young generation but to anyone who enjoys great music with empowering lyrical content. It was great to see the crowd at the San Jose State University filled with excitement as they took to the stage. They captivated the audience and as the music played, you could see waves of movement through the crowd. You just can’t keep still when you are watching them. I was watching from the soundboard and even their sound and lighting techs were shimmying to the songs, enjoying every beat!

Nicholas Petricca on vocals, keys, and synthesizer is amazing to watch. He looks like he is 100% doing what he loves and you can see how he gives as much to the audience as the audience must be giving to him. He has a charismatic charm that just makes you smile and his vocals are captivating. Kevin Ray on bass is a wild man and full of energy as he would criss cross the stage with Eli Maiman on guitar. Eli who reminds me of a young Rick Nielsen with his animated style, infectious personality. Sean Waugaman on drums was fierce as he held a solid beat with precision and hit it hard on his electric infused drum kit. Together they were unstoppable.

Check out the photos by our Rockin Ryan of their set:

If you don’t already have it pick up their self titled album on iTunes here and get ready to move! Make sure to visit their social media sites and stay up to date on their latest news. They are finishing up The Gospel Tour tomorrow and we will see if we can bring you an interview soon and see what is next in store for them.

Their new album Absent Sounds is the first album for them since signing to Triple Crown Records. On the release of ‘Absent Sounds,’ Vannucci tells us, To me this album feels like finally sleeping at night, or the first sigh of relief after good news. With a label behind the band, it is a record that wasn’t constrained by time, or other things that usually get in the way of ones vision. I always felt like no matter what I did, being in a studio had to always be “Here’s a guitar and a drumset kid, you’ve got x amount of time”, but this time it was about making the songs sound exactly like they did in my head, no matter how long it took. Having no regrets about an album is an incredible feeling.

Track listing:

  • 1.         Come In This Light
  • 2.         Label This Love
  • 3.         Breathe Desparately
  • 4.         Sleeping Limbs
  • 5.         Am I Alive
  • 6.         Ghost
  • 7.         Awful Things
  • 8.         Runner
  • 9.         Search For More
  • 10.        Fog

sleep

Sleep for Dreaming is an alternative/indie rock band from Amarillo, Texas and they are definitely worthy of your attention. They are a powerful trio delivering emotionally driven songs wrapped in melodic alternative rock. They remind me of early Toad The Wet Sprocket and the first time I heard them. Sleeping for Dreaming have a great unique sound that I hope you check out. They currently are offering for today their first EP Memories as a FREE download! It is awesome and I strongly encourage you to check it out and make sure to pick up your free download. Check out the EP here:

It starts right off with the title track Memories which is the perfect song of looking back and reminiscing. It has a catchy chorus and vocals that are not only powerful but provide hints of vulnerability. It is an emotionally driven song and well produced.

Satellites paints a poetic picture through the lyrics that draws you in emotionally and is a sweet track. Something Greater is the perfect song to give you hope as we all search for something greater. We all need comfort in times of despair or doubt, looking back on our regrets and searching for answers. It transitions into a sweet guitar build up that brings so much passion into this song.

The EP ends with the romantic, In Your Arms and their is a complete rawness and vulnerability in this song that highlights all the emotions. It is one of my favorites! These guys have done an excellent job at creating an emotional connection with their songs that invite the listener and engages them throughout.

I hope you get the chance to pick up the EP Memories as well as head to iTunes and pick up their EP Heartless. Make sure to visit their social media sites. We will see if we can bring you an interview with Sleep for Dreaming in the future.

I want to introduce you to the new band Bigbadwolf from Arizona. They have just released their new single, Flavors which is available on iTunes here. From the first time I heard it, I loved it. This indie rock band is definitely going to be garnering a lot of attention, especially with this being their first song. It just makes you really attentive and excited for what is next.

Their style of indie rock infused with alternative electronic will grab a hold of you right away. They remind me of early Muse. The vocals are seductive as they dance within the beat and create an infectious tempo.  They also have a well produced creative video for the song. Check it out here:

So make sure to pick up the single, visit their social media sites to stay up to date on their latest news and stay tuned for new music!
