One of our favorite guitarists, Cat from State Line Empire was recently featured on EMGtv performing his song Deus Ex Machina which is off his upcoming solo record, Marigold Project. We have been big fans of State Line Empire as they consistently deliver shows with a 150% energy and are true crowd pleasers. Cat is always there to shred away but in his recent spotlight, you will really get blown away by his performance. Check out the video from EMGtv with Cat performing Deus Ex Machina:

Cat is using the EMG 81 and 60 humbucker pickups. “I have been using EMG pickups for ever. I find that they are responsive and cut through perfectly. Richie Faulkner turned me on to the 57/66 sets which are mind blowing. Best pickups and best company!!!“, Cat explains.

Make sure to stay tuned for his solo record and also visit the social media sites of State Line Empire to catch their next show. Earlier this year, State Line Empire opened up for Skid Row to a sold out crowd at the legendary Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood. You can check out our coverage which includes an interview, photos, and videos here.  State Line Empire will be returning to the Whisky on October 15th to open for Gus G. It is going to be another great show, so make sure to pick up your tickets early. You can get more details on their Facebook page.

If you don’t have it yet, make sure to pick up their  new EP “Raise Your Sins“, available on Itunes.  They just have everything you are looking for in a rock and roll band with a hint of metal strewn right in. You can read more about their EP review we did in September here.  Their new EP is filled with rockin hits and it is a bit heavier but also just enough old school touches to keep everyone happy.

Earlier this month, we told you about an incredible band, Xander and the Peace Pirates and how they were the TOP HIGHLIGHT OF THE CES 2014 Convention. Well, they did it again at NAMM. During a week where you literally have hundreds and hundreds of artists performing at various booths, it can be quite challenging to figure out who you are going to see and spend your day. It wasn’t hard for us, since I knew I wanted to see the Xander Brothers live.  There was no question about that.

We headed over to the intimate stage setting in the Gibson Booth and got there just in time as Xander and the Peace Pirates began. It was awesome! There is just something about this band that you can literally get goose bumps from listening to them. Their music emits raw emotion and you can’t help but feel the passion from their music.

These brothers have a great bluesy rock sound that just penetrates your soul. With Xander and The Peace Pirates you are treated to two fantastic musicians, one being a one armed lead guitarist that will have you in awe of his playing. Xander and the Peace Pirates are brothers Keith and Stuart Xander and when you watch them, they both are always smiling and having such a great time. Here are some photos from our Rockin Ryan of their set at Gibson:

The first time I listened to them was their song, “This City” and it has such a funky groove, you are drawn in. The vocals came in and I was hooked with no turning back. Xander and The Peace Pirates are definitely my favorite new find of 2014! Their Twitter bio says, “The only solution to this soul pollution will be a spiritual revolution.”  and damn that is the truth. So get ready for a spiritual revolution with their music.

Check out their performances at the Gibson Booth from NAMM 2014 here:

What an amazing performance from these two! They not only provide inspiration to all of us, they take us on a emotionally touching journey with their words and notes and leave us absolutely speechless!  If I lived in Liverpool, I would make the Cavern Club my permanent home so I wouldn’t miss any of their performances.  I hope they return for a full tour here in the USA, they are definitely the true crowd pleasers.

Make sure to visit  their social media sites to stay up to date on their latest news. Check out another of their fantastic songs, “Dance With the Devil

This will definitely be the year for Xander and The Peace Pirates and their spiritual revolution.

This is it! Our last day of 12 Days of Guitarists and it goes to  none other than the MOST BAD ASS GUITARIST…… Zakk Wylde!!!  Zakk shreds like no other!!!

Zakk has been very busy this year. He released with Black Label Society, “Unblackened”, the new live DVD/Blue Ray and CD.  The double disk release not only featured a stripped down approach to all the classic hits like “Stillborn,” “The Blessed Hellride,” “In This River,” “Throwin’ It All Away,” “Losin’ Your Mind,”  but fierce guitar solos that you love from Zakk. There is also bonus material that includes photo gallery, music video and Interview with Zakk.  Make sure to pick up your copy to add to your Zakk Wylde collection.

Zakk also teamed up with Death Wish Coffee to bring you their newest addition, Valhalla Java!! This is the kind of the coffee that you need after one of those nights when you think nothing can wake you up! Death Wish Coffee Co. known as The Responsible Coffee Company with an Irresponsible Product Try at Your Own Risk! Check out this fun video about the new coffee:

Black Label Society have been busy working in Zakk‘s home studio, The Black Vatican, on their new album! Zakk mentions that the new Black Label Society album should be out in April 2014 and will include more of the heavy-riffing Les Paul-roaring that Black Label Society is known for.

Zakk is amazing with his blistering licks and most notably about his style is his huge vibrato! He has lightning speed and precision alternate picking style. You can try to emulate Zakk‘s guitar playing style, but he  has so  many tricks in  his bag, you will never come close to his AMAZING guitar work!!!

Zakk also came up here to EMG to celebrate their 25th anniversary with Zakk Wylde and the release of Metal Works. To celebrate EMG released a Zakk Wylde Limited Edition Set. We ran in to Zakk when he was up here at EMG and the boys had a great time talking with him.  Check out the picture of Rockin Ryan and Brandon here with him.

Now let’s kick back with a cup of Valhalla Java, play some songs from Unblackened and dream about the new Black Label Society album and tour!  I will leave you with a couple music videos from Zakk‘s visit to EMGtv which includes an acoustic performance by Zakk of Lovin Woman and another of his smokin solo work over an Andy James track provided by Jam Central Track.

Enjoy, Marisol
