I think they set a record for crowd surfing during a set at Slim’s which rarely tolerates. It was probably the most energetic crowd that I have witnessed at their performances, full on mosh pit, crowd participation and infectious passion raging through the crowd. Check out the slideshow of photographs by our Rockin Ryan from their SF show:

The Young Wild have recently released their new EP, For Now Not Forever on September 2nd. We were excited to catch them as they set out on tour recently with Barcelona. They made a stop in San Francisco at The Bottom of the Hill and it was a spectacular night. The place was packed and they came on after a great set by Midnight Cinema. The Young Wild brought the crowded venue to life as they performed their emotionally driven and fun songs, laden with catchy choruses and sweet melodies.

Being that their EP was only released several days before, it was wonderfully surprising to see how many were singing along to the words as if it was their old favorites. A couple highlights for me are Moment Goes and Cry Out. Cry Out is such a fantastic track and to hear it performed live, was like a warm embrace through their music. They bring a lot of passion into their songs and create a special connection with the listener. Check out the photos by our Rockin Ryan of their set:

You can also pick up their EP For Now Not Forever on iTunes here. It will take you on a journey of emotion and captivate you from the start. They have a couple more show dates, so check them out and see if they are coming to a venue near you:

Make sure to visit their social media sites and stay up to date on their latest news. We will see if we can bring you an interview soon with these talented musicians. I will leave you with some videos of their set.

hiraeth

Breakaway Patriot from San Francisco featuring Brad Tyner, Tyler Gomez and Michael Miller are set to grab your attention. Most recently we featured Breakaway Patriot as they released their emotionally driven and well produced music video for their song, The Homecoming. It is an amazing video that brings attention to all the heroes and warriors who return home from serving their nation, only to return and never be the same. It is a great tribute to all Veterans and is so deserving of your attention.

The Homecoming is off their EP Hiraeth which was released earlier this year, music was recorded and engineered by Matt Taylor of Castro Valley. In addition, Vocals, Mixing and Mastering was by Josh Cobb of Rockbot Studios in Jacksonville, FL. Hiraeth contains six songs yet packs a full album of emotions and feelings in this well produced EP.

It starts right off with the powerful guitar intro of Indestructible and is a great rock song with an alternative edge. This is definitely one of my favorite tracks that you can just crank up loud. It holds the right heaviness without being overdone. Hiraeth has a beautiful ethereal intro that truly brings the feeling of flying as you are soaring through emotions. The vocals are captivating, all the while, creating a hint of vulnerability. It has this 30 Seconds to Mars vibe that I love, yet in no way imitates.

Submissions is one powerful track, and you can feel the emotion and weight of battling an addiction. We all have our demons and this song truly captures that moment when you finally raise your hands up and face the demons that challenge you. It contains a great introspection as one teeters on the edge, grasping for that control, feeling alone but realizing that it all lies in their own hands and were never alone.  Absolutely beautiful and very well done.

Righteous Minds highlights passionate vocals amid soul searching and a reflection of faith. The acoustic guitar brings out the raw emotion through the stripped down music. Next is Homecoming and with its cinematic style, definitely tells a tale of the conflict and aftermath a soldier has after returning home. It captures so much emotion and the song itself is a musical gem.

The final song is Edson and is a song of heartbreak and loss and yet how we can overcome it. This song is probably the most emotional song for me and there is one line in there, “Waiting… Until I see You again” which hit me hard because that is something my father said to me just almost three years ago as I stayed by his side for his final days before losing his quick battle with cancer.

Music that makes a connection and draws out such emotion is music to my ears. It is when a person can listen to a song and regardless of what is the story behind the song, they make their own true connection, that is a sign of great music. Now it is your turn to pick up the EP, Hiraeth and make your own connections.

Hiraeth is available here on iTunes and make sure to visit their social media sites and stay up to date on their latest news and show announcements. Check out some photos that our Rockin Ryan took at their most recent show at the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma.

We’ve all had that one friend that was in a dead-end garage band in high school. Stuck In Your Radio‘s story might start out the same as those guys, but it doesn’t end at Senior year.

Lead singer Eddie Cardona, or as the lovable goof is more likely known as, Sly Fox has lead a life influenced and driven by music. Raised primarily in Puerto Rico, he started off not knowing English. That was, until listening to Blink 182 influenced him to pick up the langue. After moving to the states, he continued to encompass music in his life. After performing in a high school talent show, he and a few friends began a band called All Or Nothing.

2

Eventually All Or Nothing transformed into Stuck In Your Radio, but like many high school bands, the members began taking their own paths and the band eventually drifted apart. After high school, Sly made a profession out of content creating for YouTube. His channel grew immensely and he decided to use his newfound following to revive Stuck In Your Radio.

3

In October of 2011, Sly re-released two of the band’s old songs, following it up with the release of three new songs in January. All five songs, along with a previously unreleased tune, were tracked together on the band’s debut self-entitled EP.

The fans embraced the music greatly and Stuck In Your Radio put on a sold out show in their hometown of Allentown, PA. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the money to become a traveling band and left their careers on the internet. Not too soon after, frontman Sly and bassist Aleks Vitaly moved to Colorado, further delaying the band’s success.

Through the help of modern technology, they’ve recently returned from a two year hiatus to bring the fans new songs. The EP was recently released under the very appropriate title, Better Late Than Never. A fan favorite seems to be Young Hearted Kids, which I have to agree is an amazing song and a good theme song for the youth of America.

SIYR is very good at producing music that pulls life into perspective for a teen. Many of the songs on the previous self entitled EP, along with the amazing work on Better Late Than Never, commit to an empowering and enlightening message.

4

However, the band reached out of their usual formula with a breakup song that didn’t disappoint. My Last Mistake carries a great energy and showcases the influence of pop and skate punk (much like one of Sly’s favorite bands, Blink-182.)

Of course, what’s a rock album without a slow song? Maybe it’s not the typical love song, but Today is the Day is a very inspirational ballad about overcoming the odds. And finally on the album, the party song! Still following the path of a self empowering teen song, Our Own People comes with a fantastic, throw-your-hands-up-and-have-a-damn-good-time type of dance beat.

This song completes a rockin’ EP for all the teen dirtbags throwing back Monster at the skate park. I highly suggest this band for anyone that enjoys wrecking town and living life while they’re young.

Unfortunately, we all know there’s always a downside to everything. SIYR’s bassist has announced his departure from the band, but all is not lost. As this band has shown time and time again, they’ve got far more than nine lives. You can always count on Stuck In Your Radio to be the king of the comeback kids!

sleep

Sleep for Dreaming is an alternative/indie rock band from Amarillo, Texas and they are definitely worthy of your attention. They are a powerful trio delivering emotionally driven songs wrapped in melodic alternative rock. They remind me of early Toad The Wet Sprocket and the first time I heard them. Sleeping for Dreaming have a great unique sound that I hope you check out. They currently are offering for today their first EP Memories as a FREE download! It is awesome and I strongly encourage you to check it out and make sure to pick up your free download. Check out the EP here:

It starts right off with the title track Memories which is the perfect song of looking back and reminiscing. It has a catchy chorus and vocals that are not only powerful but provide hints of vulnerability. It is an emotionally driven song and well produced.

Satellites paints a poetic picture through the lyrics that draws you in emotionally and is a sweet track. Something Greater is the perfect song to give you hope as we all search for something greater. We all need comfort in times of despair or doubt, looking back on our regrets and searching for answers. It transitions into a sweet guitar build up that brings so much passion into this song.

The EP ends with the romantic, In Your Arms and their is a complete rawness and vulnerability in this song that highlights all the emotions. It is one of my favorites! These guys have done an excellent job at creating an emotional connection with their songs that invite the listener and engages them throughout.

I hope you get the chance to pick up the EP Memories as well as head to iTunes and pick up their EP Heartless. Make sure to visit their social media sites. We will see if we can bring you an interview with Sleep for Dreaming in the future.
