Davenport Cabinet which first began as a solo project of Coheed and Cambria guitarist, Travis Stever has grown into a full band endeavor. With the release of their third album, Damned Renegades they have been gaining a lot of well deserved high praises. The album was released on Equal Vision Records and is available through MerchNOW and digital retailers such as iTunes,Amazon and more. Davenport Cabinet have released a lyric video for their song, Aneris off the album. Check it out here:

The album takes you on an amazing musical journey and Stever reveals about the album, “Damned Renegades is a very personal record, lyrically and sonically. My relationship with the album was much like that of a mad scientist and his experiment. While writing it, I was anxiously awaiting becoming a new father and focused all of that excitement and energy into the music. As much as I wanted to just center on preparing for the birth, I felt that I needed to record the music we were creating first. The rest of the Davenport guys very willingly came along with me for the ride, adding in their own music styles and flavors all over the record. The record stretches all over musically, showcasing the diversity that lies within the Cabinet.”

Stever adds, “Damned Renegades finds Davenport Cabinet exactly where I have always wanted it musically. With Tyler, Tom, and Mike, I was able to achieve the full band sound and group interaction I’ve always wanted with the project. I couldn’t be more proud of this record.” It really is a beautiful musical gem of alternative, classic and indie rock that you have to check out.

Davenport Cabinet have announced a couple upcoming shows:

  • Nov 26 Warwick, NY @ Tuscan Café
  • Nov 29 Blairstown, NJ @ Historic Blairstown Theatre

This past weekend I was so glad to make it down to San Francisco for the Alter Bridge show at The Warfield. I have been counting the days and especially because the bill was complete with three bad ass bands! In addition to Like A Storm, we were ecstatic to finally catch a live set of California Breed, the latest project of legendary Glenn Hughes and the young extremely talented guitarist Andrew Watt. We weren’t able to catch the bad ass drumming of newly announced (live performance) drummer, ex Queens of the Stone Age/ Eagles of Death Metal Joey Castillo as he was committed to another show date but none the less, it was fantastic! The music that the three created was a larger than life sound that is a must to see live. The intensity and passion that each bring to the stage is mesmerizing.

Glenn’s vocals literally gave me chills. He has one of those voices that can sing a page out of the phonebook and have it sound as sweet as molasses. Powerful and captivating set is exactly what California Breed delivers on stage. Check out the photos by our Rockin Ryan of their SF set:

The tour just wrapped up on Sunday night at The Wiltern in Los Angeles and I am already missing them! If you don’t already have it, do yourself a huge favor and pick up their self titled debut album on iTunes here. It is filled with amazing vocals, pulsating bass lines, fierce guitar riffs and catchy hooks. It will take you back to your love and longing for classic rock wrapped in an adrenaline filled vibe. I will leave you the video for their first single off the album, “Sweet Tea”.  Sweet Tea definitely kicks ass as it brings to life the big ’70s sounds of rock that we miss! Glenn’s vocals just take you on a ride and it has some killer guitar work on it. You can check out the video here:

I will begin my countdown until I can see them again! Make sure to visit their social media sites so you can stay up to date on their latest news.

These young musicians have breathed fresh new life into the alternative rock scene with hints of classic 90’s grunge and dipped in pure classic rock bliss. Their music is well beyond their years as they show a great level of maturity in their sound, evolved and well developed. Check out their new single, Lilac and you will hear what I mean:

Last Saturday at The Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, I was able to finally catch a set of Kingsborough. I have been hearing a lot of great buzz about this band for a couple years now. We missed them this summer at Bottle Rock in Napa, and we have been waiting ever so impatiently to find the right time to see them. Well the stars aligned and the music gods made it happen. They were playing at The Phoenix and we were not going to miss them, especially for such a close show for us.

Kingsborough is:

  • Billy Kingsborough: Vocals
  • Alex Leach: Guitar
  • Chris Mangione: Bass
  • John Whitney: Drums

Well, they did exactly what I had expected, actually they exceeded my expectations and completely blew us away with their performance. These guys must eat adrenaline filled Wheaties because from the moment they hit the stage to the time they step off, they are giving a full 150% of their energy. When asked about their energy and if they have any pre-show rituals to harness their energy, Billy comments,

“We don’t really have anything specific that we do before shows to harness our energy. Its hard enough to get all the musicians and gear on stage in time to perform.  Personally (and I this goes for the rest of the guys), I just love to play, express, and become the music. Right before we hit that first chord, I think of all the times at work or in life where I don’t have the chance to do what I love or express myself, and think how the audience (whether it be 1 or 1 thousand) is giving me this opportunity. They deserve 110% of what I (and the band) is able to give just for being there. Hopefully, by giving our best, we inspire someone to do what they love as well.”

Their stage presence is very commanding and really captures the crowd’s attention from the start. The music which is a very welcoming fusion of blues and classic rock but with a much more modernized face lift! They literally bring an intensity to their music, soulful vocals that just grab a hold of you, catchy choruses, spectacular guitar solos, striking rhythms and big harmonies that need their own zip code. This is one band that you can only be described as “ROCK AND ROLL AT ITS FINEST”. Check out some photos by our Rockin Ryan of their set:

We are really excited to hear that Kingsborough will be releasing a new album, The Night, The Grind and The Woes sometime in November. Billy explains, “We were lucky enough to work with Grammy Award winning producer, Jason Carmer. He did Third Eye Blind’s Blue and has worked with countless other amazing artists like RUN DMC, Korn, Chuck Prophet and The Donnas. We recorded at his home studio in Berkley, about 5 minutes away from Fantasy Studios. Working there, we couldn’t help but draw inspiration from Creedence Clearwater Revival, Sly Stone and The Doobie Brothers. We even used some of the reverb chambers at Fantasy Studios that CCR used during their time there.” In addition to what to expect as to their sound on this album, Billy continues, “With that, you can expect a modern take on a very classic sound. We are a band and were put in a room with the record button on; and thats how the album sounds.

We look forward to the new album and in the meantime, make sure you head over to pick up their Said and Done EP on iTunes here:  https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/said-and-done-ep/id571140022. They even played some of their new songs in their set and my favorite is the soulful rockin track, Sinner. Be sure to visit their social media sites and their website of  www.kingsboroughmusic.com so you can stay up to date on all their latest news and upcoming shows.

We will leave you with some videos of their set at the Phoenix Theater. Stay tuned for more coverage of Kingsborough and we will see when we can bring you an interview with these amazing musicians.

ozonemama

I recently told you about how I fell in love with a new band from Budapest, Ozone Mama. You can read more about that here. Ozone Mama has released a music vide for their song, I Really Care. Check it out here:

This band hailing from Budapest, Hungary and they have given a fresh new facelift to the classic rock of the 60’s and 70’s. They bring out a heavier vibe and an absolutely addictive sound. I can’t get enough of them. The gritty vocals of Marton are so infectious and sultry. He brings out such a nostalgia for 70s classic rock. The guitars are sexy and dirty and have that raw edge that the Golden Era of Classic Rock would maintain.

Band Members:

  • Marton Szekely – vocals, tambourine
  • Andras Gabor – guitars, background vocals
  • Vivien Tiszai – drums
  •  Gergely Dobos – bass

Are you ready for more Ozone Mama? Check out their music video or their song, Go  which is off their latest EP, Freedom.

You can pick up their EP Freedom on iTunes here as well as their debut album The Starship Has Landed from 2012. Make sure to check out and visit their social media sites and stay up to date on their latest news. I am hoping they make a tour to the US soon!

Rock legend Randy Bachman has had quite a successful career and has written probably a lot of your favorite songs. I know many of his classics are still some of my most played tracks on my playlist. Often referred to as the “architect of Canadian rock n’ roll, Bachman’s catalogue of hits include “American Woman,” “These Eyes,” “No Time,” “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet,” “Takin’ Care of Business,” and “Roll On Down the Highway.” And now, Bachman himself offers thrilling in-concert renditions and earnest tales behind the creation of all of these classics (and many more), on ‘Every Song Tells A Story,’ a fourteen-track CD/DVD set that will be released on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 via the Independent Label Services Group (ILS). blackmood

Not too long ago, we featured The Black Moods out of Arizona, you can read more from that post here.  Now these 70’s inspired rockers are adding more dates to their tour and have released an awesome music video for Say It For The Last Time. Check out the video here:

The Black Moods is a three piece band that I can describe as having great guitar driven songs, infectious melodies, energetic vocals and an upgraded version of old school rock and roll. Imagine the great songwriting of Tom Petty meets the energy and passion of the Foo Fighters along with a side order of Collective Soul.  They are Josh Kennedy on Lead Guitar/Vocals, Ryan Prier on Bass/Vocals and Chico – Drums/Percussion. Together they have collectively brought the rock influences of the past 40 years and have created their own unique signature sound.

Their tour is in support of their upcoming EP, Killers in The Night which is set for a July 15th release.  Singer and guitarist Josh Kennedy offers, “I feel like we are an emotionally driven 70’s Rock ‘n’ Roll band. We just happen to have grown up in the nineties. We have a clear vision of the music we want to create, and it is reminiscent of a more classic rock style.  I hope when people come to a show, or hear an album, they sense feeling, emotion and intensity.”  Catch them out on tour at the following dates:

  • 6/19     Springfield, MO                                  The Outland Ballroom
  • 6/20     St. Louis, MO                                     Atomic Cowboy
  • 6/21     Columbia, MO                                    The Blue Fuge
