We recently brought you our coverage of the return of the Butcher Babies at this year’s Monster Energy Aftershock Festival. They are one of the most energetic female fronted bands out today. What is really awesome is that these frontwomen could give many men a run for their money when it comes to bringing power and presence to the stage. They hit the stage and took control of the crowd, energized everyone and definitely raised the heat a dozen or so degrees! We had the opportunity to chat with vocalist, Heidi Shepard at Aftershock and we are pleased to bring that interview to you here:

One thing is for sure, they definitely delivered an intense and energetic set. Check out the photos by our Rockin Ryan from their blazing set:

We were glad to hear them perform songs from their new EP Uncovered which is due out this week on September 30th through Century Media Records. The 5 song EP will feature cover songs that were chosen by each band member, and in the early summer of this year, they entered the studio with producer Logan Mader (DEVILDRIVER, GOJIRA, 5 FINGER DEATH PUNCH) to dissect and “butcher” these five classics, creating something all their own. Butcher Babies have launched the first track off their new EP, UNCOVERED. The 5 song EP which features cover songs chosen by each band member and in the early summer of this year, they entered the studio with producer Logan Mader (DEVILDRIVER, GOJIRA, 5 FINGER DEATH PUNCH) to dissect and “butcher” these five classics, creating something all their own., each chosen the band members. Uncovered track-listing
1. Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers
2. They’re Coming to Take Me Away
3. Don’t Give a Fuck
4. Crazy Horses
5. Pussy Whipped

The first track launched is They’re Coming To Take Me Away which was chosen by Carla Harvey, who comments: It was a blast recording songs that we have been fans of our entire lives and putting our spin on them. We all chose a song that had some significance to us. My pick was ‘They’re Coming to Take Me Away’ by NAPOLEAN XIV because I have a vivid memory of my stepdad, who I considered completely insane, playing it over and over again on his car stereo when I was a pre-teen. The song is about being taken away to a mental institution. I can still see him tapping his fingers on his steering wheel to the beat...”

Check out the song here:

That is a bad ass cover! I love the tempo and vocals are vulnerable yet powerful and bring out a frenzy of energy. I can’t wait to see Butcher Babies at Aftershock this weekend and I hope this track is on their set list!!  This is going to be awesome EP.  You can also head over to their website at http://butcherbabiesofficial.com/ where they list several pre-order bundle options that include signed CD, t-shirts, video messages, hand written lyrics, guest list for life tickets and much more! The song is about being taken away to a mental institution. I can still see him tapping his fingers on his steering wheel to the beat...”

BUTCHER BABIES’ Heidi Shepherd (vocals) adds: As an eight or nine-year-old little girl, I used to rummage through my parents’ albums and 8-tracks looking for some cool music. In hopes that my parents had at least a little bit of good taste, I would play every single song looking for something that I could latch on to. That’s when I came across ‘Crazy Horses’ by THE OSMONDS; it was the heaviest song I had heard at that age. I would play that song over and over and over again, I was addicted. To this date, it’s still one of my favorite songs and reminds me so much of growing up in Provo, Utah.”

In regards to BUTCHER BABIES’ cover of THE OSMONDS’ “Crazy Horses”, Donny Osmond comments: When we released ‘Crazy Horses,’ we were pushing against what THE OSMONDS were known for, but it became a greatest hit. The BUTCHER BABIES have reinvented this song in a creative and innovative way — and that’s what music is about. Now…What if I had recorded ‘Puppy Love’ like this?

This is going to be awesome. The ladies from Butcher Babies are amazing front women and talented beauties. Carla Harvey will be releasing her upcoming novel, Death and Other Dances on August 25th in select bookstores as well as Amazon, Amazon Europe, and Kindle.

This semi-autobiographical work tells the story of Autumn Franklin – an awkward, biracial Detroit native – that is disconnected from her peers at an early age because of her background. When Autumn’s young parents divorce, she becomes even more withdrawn, yet survives the cards that she’s been dealt by relocating to the alluring City of Angels, where she has but one goal: to find herself. Struggling to make solid connections with those around her, Autumn swallows her reservations and pushes limits to the extreme as she transitions between a drastic career change: from the bowels of the adult entertainment industry to her rebirth as a mortician. There amongst the dead, she learns what it is to live, love, and to allow others inside, finally landing in the most comfortable place of all: her own skin. You can read an excerpt from Death and Other Dances, head over to Revolver Mag.com for the exclusive sneak peek: http://www.revolvermag.com/?p=64873

In addition Carla will be holding a Book Release Party along with book signing and reading on August 28th at 7 pm at Los Angeles’ Book Soup. For full event details, please visit: http://www.booksoup.com/carla-harvey-2014. Death and Other Dances can be pre-ordered now here: http://carlaharvey.bigcartel.com/product/death-and-other-dances-presale.
