We had told you about Like Monroe a couple months ago ( formerly A Candle Lit City) and brought you an interview with vocalist, Ty Johnson, read here.  Today we wanted to let you know that Like Monroe just released a lyric video for their new single “The Enemy”. Check it out here:

Lead singer Ty Johnson has been quoted before as saying,  “Every song for us has been about growth. We feel that we are writing our most thought provoking, yet inspiring music we have ever produced and we couldn’t be more proud”. This is one song to be proud of guys! Great job! I love this song. It has a great mixture of deep scream vocals meshed with hard rock vocals. along with bad ass drumming. The guitars are drop tuned heavy guitars that I always enjoy.

You can pick up the new single today through their website here.   So make sure to check them out and follow them at all their new social media sites.

I wanted to tell you about a great band that I have been enjoying, A Candle Lit City but they have recently announced a name change due to member changes and new music. So I would like to introduce you to an old friend A Candle Lit City which is now under the name Like Monroe. Coming from Houston, Texas they are delivering alternative rock with a  metal edge.  We recently interviewed lead vocalist Ty Johnson:

* * * * * * * * * * *

Music Junkie Press: Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us here at Music Junkie Press. With the new name, will we be seeing a new album and if so, when might that be?

Ty Johnson: Yes, we currently have a few songs ready and as for a release date for the new album it’ll most likely be early Fall.

Music Junkie Press:  We are very excited about the new album and can’t wait for it! Can  you remember what was the first concert you ever went to?

Ty Johnson: My first concert was Silverstein, The Devil Wears Prada, A Day to Remember and Protest the Hero. I was 15 and I fell in love with the energy in that place. Still to this day one of the best shows I’ve  ever seen!

Music Junkie Press: That sounds like a great concert, I can only imagine the energy of that show.  How old were you when you started playing and can you remember what was the first song you sang or played in its entirety?

Ty Johnson: Wade and I started the band when we were freshmen in high school. The first song we ever got together and wrote was “Does one bullet?” haha. You won’t be able to find that one online, thank god.

Music Junkie Press: We may have to do some searching for one that one!! If Like Monroe could put together their dream lineup, what other three bands (living or dead) would you like to see on your lineup?

Ty Johnson: All of us would have to agree on Underoath. The Devil Wears Prada would be an awesome band to tour with. Lastly, I’m going to go with Katy Perry. If you’re reading this Katy. Call me.

Music Junkie Press: We will have to let Katy know where to reach you! Will Like Monroe still be heading out on the Texas Take Down Tour and if so, will you playing all your A Candle Lit City songs and anything new?

Ty Johnson:  Yeah and we are very excited to hit the road with our buddies Against the Archaic! We will be play two songs off the “A Light in the Dark” E.P and then two new ones as well.

Music Junkie Press:  That is going to be a great tour. If only we were in Texas! We will have to get one of our reps out there to check it out. If you could take any song from any other genre and turn it into your own style, which might it be?

Ty Johnson: Well I always thought it’d be cool to cover Drake’s song “Started from the bottom”. Its really catchy and always gets stuck in my head.

Music Junkie Press: That is a good one and I can see how you can change it up and give it your own style. If I could peak into your Ipod/playlist what would the next three songs be on shuffle?

Ty Johnson: Fit for a King – Warpath, The Story so Far – Bad Luck and Willie Nelson – Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain

Music Junkie Press:   I love the variety you have. Lastly, do you have anything else you would like to share with our audience?

Ty Johnson: We are excited to push on and start a new identity with a new name and image. In the next few days we will be posting an introduction video and go a little more in depth with what has been happening. We are excited to start this new chapter for us, now that we’re continuing on a new path we cant wait to take whoever is coming along with us.

You all have played such an important role in this, and each and everyone of you are as important as we are, you are what keeps us going. We hope we get to meet everyone of you on tour, and also thank you so much to everyone who has ever supported us, bought or downloaded a CD, merch, or came to a show. You have no idea how much everything meant to us. Nothing makes us feel anywhere close to the feeling that music gives us. We have been insanely blessed to be able to do what we have done with A Candle Lit City and we think it’s time that we wrap up this chapter in our lives.

We are sad to lay A Candle Lit City to rest, but are very excited for what is next in this new chapter and what is in store for LIKE MONROE!

Music Junkie Press:   Thank you so much Ty. We are all here to support you. It brings to mind my favorite quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson:

“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. ”

You are doing just that and I think it is exciting! I trust that all A Candle Lit City fans and your new ones are here to support you and the band during this change.  We will share the introduction video when it is out and let everyone know where to find Like Monroe.

* * * * * * * * * * *

So make sure to check them out and follow them at all their new social media sites. We will keep you updated when we get the video introduction and updates as to the new record. If you are in Texas don’t miss them on their Texas Takedown Tour where they will be playing with Against the Archaic.

Last year I told you about a great new band, Another Lost Year from North Carolina.  They have been doing non stop shows and their songs have been getting a lot of great airplay. We had the opportunity to interview guitarist, Adam Hall and we wanted to bring that interview to you.  Also I have included below my original post on this great band.  So check out the interview with Adam where you can learn about which was the most influential rock albums for him, or one of his favorite moments from the Showboat RockFest last year or when are they coming back to the West Coast!  We thank Adam for his time. We hope you can all check the tour schedule on their website  or on my list below, and catch their adrenaline filled concerts. Enjoy, Marisol

______________________Repost of August, 8, 2012______________________

Allow me to introduce you to a great new band that hails from Charlotte, NC,  “Another Lost Year”. Once you take a listen, I am sure you will be hearing a lot more of this band. Another Lost Year was voted 2011 Rock Band of the Year in the Carolinas and this year they are ready to take over the airwaves with their Hard Rock/Alternative Metal sound. Over the past year, they have played with some of my favorite bands; Pop Evil, Rev Theory, Royal Bliss, Nonpoint, 10 Years, Flyleaf, Soulicit and 30 Seconds to Mars.

I was recently given their new album “Better Days” (produced by Justin Rimer – 12 Stones) to review and it has been some time since I have listened to an album for a review and immediately have added it to my regular daily playlist. That is how awesome this album was for me. They bring such a great sound and style to their music which is reminiscent of early LIVE.  Their lyrics resonate with  deep emotion and bring the listener to peer into their own lives and feel each song as if it were written for them alone. The album is filled with great guitar licks, pounding drums and crisp vocals.

The first single of the album is the intense fist pumping rocking song, “War on the The Inside”. This song will have you easily engaged within seconds as you may remember a time when you might have had that “War on the Inside” where you were left to yourself to fight your own demons and hope to be saved. I just got the chance to watch their video for it and it is everybit as intense as I expected it to be. I love it. Check it out here: http://youtu.be/8qR1RjPYWa4

“Better Days” reminds me of a cross of Creed and Seven Mary Three. Another two of my favorite bands. Another Lost Year blends their hard rock with excellent vocals that gives you a well rounded sound.It is hard to pick any favorites since I have been listening to the entire album so much and each song brings to life a new emotion or new memory for me.   We have all had those relationships that left us broken and with lots to say to other person which is what I hear when I listen to “Broken” or “What I Deserve”.

“Angels”  is a great ballad that is home to my favorite lyrics of the entire album, “I’ll be there until the Angels take your place”. Absolutely beautiful, would be perfect for a tattoo…. hmmm. maybe??   I still want to find out who the guest female vocalist is on that song. She has a beautiful voice that just blends perfectly with Clinton Cunanan. “Runaway” brings the romance alive and with the sweet melody makes the miles disappear in a long distance relationship.

“Writing on the Wall” brings a touch of Blink 182 sound to it and it is a welcome addition to the album. The last song on the album “Forget about Us” is the perfect ending to the album, it is the grand finale and just rounds out this album perfectly.  I could imagine that these guys put on a great live show and hope to catch them when they come out to the West Coast.

So please do get a chance to check out Another Lost Year at the following links and let me know what you think. “Better Days” is set to release August 14, 2012 through Megaforce Records/Thermal Entertainment. Make sure to get your copy! Stay tuned and maybe I can update with an interview of this great band.
