The UK bad ass band, The Family Ruin are just about to set out on tour as support to Crown The Empire on their headlining fall tour. The ‘Welcome To The Resistance Tour’ began on August 30th in Anaheim, CA and due to problems with their visa, The Family Ruin is set to join the tour a little bit later.

The Family Ruin have really been garnering a lot of well deserved attention since singing with KBB Records, the new record label of Asking Alexandria’s Ben Bruce and co-manager Kyle Borman. The Family Ruin have a very fresh new sound complete with hard and heavy riffs blended with infectious harmonies, where they blend their metal and alternative influences with melodic hard rock. There is something for everyone in their sound. Think about a mix of Avenged Sevenfold with Escape the Fate. Dearly Departed is definitely a must have album. In case you missed it, check out our recent review of Dearly Departed here.

They have just released a new lyric video for their song, Let’s Go and you can check it out here:

Their new album Absent Sounds is the first album for them since signing to Triple Crown Records. On the release of ‘Absent Sounds,’ Vannucci tells us, To me this album feels like finally sleeping at night, or the first sigh of relief after good news. With a label behind the band, it is a record that wasn’t constrained by time, or other things that usually get in the way of ones vision. I always felt like no matter what I did, being in a studio had to always be “Here’s a guitar and a drumset kid, you’ve got x amount of time”, but this time it was about making the songs sound exactly like they did in my head, no matter how long it took. Having no regrets about an album is an incredible feeling.

Track listing:

  • 1.         Come In This Light
  • 2.         Label This Love
  • 3.         Breathe Desparately
  • 4.         Sleeping Limbs
  • 5.         Am I Alive
  • 6.         Ghost
  • 7.         Awful Things
  • 8.         Runner
  • 9.         Search For More
  • 10.        Fog

The UK bad ass band, The Family Ruin are just about to set out on tour as support to Crown The Empire on their headlining fall tour. The ‘Welcome To The Resistance Tour’ begins August 30th in Anaheim, CA. Special guests on this run will also include Volumes, Secrets, and Ice Nine Kills. The Family Ruin is one of the new bands signed to KBB Records which is the new record label of Ben Bruce and Kyle Borman.

The album starts right off with the fist-in-the-air chant of the rockin track Bring Out Your Dead. Hang on tight, you are about to take an incredible ride fueled with guitar heavy riffs, powerful vocals and get instantly hooked.  Things get kicked up a notch with the Leech which has a Bullet For My Valentine style intro taking you into a M. Shadows vibe and even a hint of raspy vocals like Josh Todd in the chorus. This song just bleeds energy and is definitely one of my favorites. Of course, you will find me saying that about every song because this album features 14 outstanding tracks. It is nice to see a band put out a full album with songs that are varied in their own style and don’t blend together. I am loving this album and it has been a mainstay on my regular playlist for a few weeks now!

Cirque Du Sin has some amazing whirling guitars that grab your attention. Another one of my fave songs is Let’s Go which I can easily see make it’s fast rise on the Active Rock chart and onto the airwaves. The single is set to release next week, check it out here:

Us Against the World has a cinematic intro and powerful vocals with emotionally driven lyrics that create such emotion. The song seamlessly blends an alternative edge into the hard rock style, another great stand out track. The ambient ethereal intro of Battle for the Sun transitions you into the face paced frenetic drums that I love. The vocals and battle style lyrics create such an intensity and energy that takes you to the edge.

Haunting highlights the amazing vocals that capture a true rawness and vulnerability and the mysterious backing vocals create such an illusive presence. Broken Hands once again has you appreciating the musicianship of the band, as they blend their hard rock style with an alternative edge and in no way, does it seem forced. They flow easily with melodies and hooks.

Let It Burn was the first single they released and immediately caught everyone’s attention. It is a heavy hard rock track with fierce guitars, powerful vocals, precision drumming and solid bass lines. It was the perfect introduction for people to The Family Ruin. Check out the lyric video for the song here:

The intro on Where We Fall is just purely bad ass as you dance amid adrenaline filled vibe laced with a sweet melody. It is like a rush to your heart and the sigh after, all at once, really great track. Sonder is the crowning finale to the album as it gathers all of your emotions into a cathartic closure. It might be the last act for this album but will have you looking forward to more by The Family Ruin.

Jesse

Jesse Denaro has announced a US Fall Tour in support of his new album, Dear Love. The tour will also feature Animal Flag. Singer/Songwriter Jesse has done a wonderful job at creating an album full of emotionally driven lyrics, songs that connect the listener and engages them on his musical journey.  It is quite a superb journey to be a passenger on as you will experience the ups and downs of life, love and loss. I can only imagine how wonderful it will be to experience the music live. Jesse posted the following about the tour:

Hey Guys!

This fall I am embarking on my first ever full US tour! I am going out with my best friend Animal Flag and we are supporting both of our new albums (“Dear, Love” & his upcoming self titled EP coming this Fall). Touring takes a lot of time, preparation and money, so if you have a spare dollar or two head over to iTunes, band camp or whatever and pick up “Dear, Love” or any older releases from Matt. All the support is appreciated!
We hope to see you at these shows. Share this post, tag a friend who lives in the area, bring a friend to a show, tell your parents or pets or whatever. Let’s make this awesome.
The shows that say ‘TBA’ we are still looking for shows, so please feel free to help us book those dates. WE WANT TO PLAY SHOWS IN YOUR HOUSE OR VENUE OR WHATEVER FOR YOUR FRIENDS.
Details on each show will be released closer to the start of tour.

Love,
Jesse

The tour poster includes many LA dates and we are hoping that a Northern California one will be added soon. Check the dates and see if they will be coming to a venue near you.

You can pick up Jesse’s new album, Dear Love on  iTunes You can check out one of my favorite tracks, Young & Naive here:

Jesse‘s music is magical and his honest emotions shine through his passionate vocals with such a vulnerability yet a sense of comforting. It is an album that you will fall in love with, regardless of what your main love of music may be. His sound transcends the blurred lines of genres and creates a clarity through song.  I will leave you with my absolute favorite track which I must have played a dozen times this morning! Great news to share! Ani DiFranco is set to release a new album, Allergic To Water on October 14th through her own label, Righteous Babe Records. The album was tracked by herself at her New Orleans home, often while her family slept and creates a hushed vibe to the album. Ani explained more about the album during a statement on her site:

Mostly I worked alone in headphones, in the wee hours, while my family slept. It was empowering but terrifying to have the buck stop with me again in terms of the mixes. The recordings are documents of my current touring band (recorded by Mike in our old victorian house in the Marigny neighborhood of New Orleans and also by Andy Taub at a nearby church in the Treme) just laying down the songs.

“Many also feature a couple of very choice special guests. My killer band these days consists of bassist and composer Todd Sickafoose, who not only brings an always wonderful and unexpected counterpoint to my guitar with his bass playing, but is also my secret weapon in terms of production- overdubbing atmospherics and embellishments that add depth and color to the stories I tell.

“My drummer is Terence Higgins, a New Orleans native, who brings that deeply funky pocket that makes me smile so wide, yet all-the-while listening through to the whole picture and really making music with his instrument, not just rhythms. Though most of Terence’s musical incarnations have him playing drum kit, this record really features his hand-percussion prowess- like the congas on “see see see see”, the Mardi Gras Indian style tambourine on “genie” – he nailed it every time.”

We are so excited for the album and can’t wait for it. You can check out the first song Woe Be Gone here:

Once again, Ani treats us with her sweet beautiful music and you can’t help but fall in love with this amazingly talented singer/songwriter/poet. We had the opportunity to catch her performance earlier this year in Napa and it was one of the most magical nights. You can read all about it here:  Ani DiFranco mesmerizes Napa.  Check out a slideshow of photos from that night by our Rockin Ryan:

We will continue to keep you updated and make sure to also visit the social media sites for more news. I hope you take the time out of your busy schedule and put on some Ani DiFranco, one thing is for sure, you will feel alive and vibrant as you soak in her energy and feel her music enter your soul. I would encourage you to head over to www.righteousbabe.com and pick up some music today. Also, Not A Pretty Girl is available as a newly re-mastered Vinyl and is a MUST HAVE or make sure you have her latest of her 20 albums, ¿Which Side are You On?,

john5

John 5 has always amazed me with his stellar guitar playing. It was no surprise that he was featured on our 12 Days of Guitarists last year. John 5 has had quite an extensive guitar career, from playing with David Lee Roth, Marilyn Manson, and others. In addition to playing with Rob Zombie, he has continued to have quite a successful solo career. He is an amazing guitarist that shreds when he plays. He is a guitar virtuoso who can play you anything from bluegrass to flamenco, instrumental to country, and metal to rock and anything else in between.

John has just released his new album, Careful With That Axe and it will blow your mind. 10 fierce tracks highlighting the excellent shredding of John as well as his versatility in style. Amid his kick ass rock shreds, he treats you to some country twang with Jerry’s Breakdown and Jiffy Jam. Flight of the Vulcan Kelly is intense and really has you spinning in a whirlwind of guitar bliss.

The spanish influenced El Cucuay is one of my favorites and reminds me of my love for his song, Noche Acosador from his previous album, God Told Me To. Another sensational highlight is the machine gun stylings of This Is My Rifle. Check out a behind the scenes recording of This Is My Rifle:

The album was released on August 12th and you can pick it up on Amazon MP3 here  or iTunes here. Whether you are a guitar player or just appreciate great musical talents this album is a must have to your collection. I hope you already own, God Told Me To. As I mentioned, it has one of my most favorite songs of all time, “Noche Acosador” which literally gives me chills when I listen to it. His guitar delivers seduction and intensity with every note. Check it out here:

That song just creates pure bliss for me!  It seems John 5 has no limitations on his playing as he really plays guitar across the board; no genres, no boundaries. Just Kick ass Guitar playing that will enliven all your senses. Make sure to head over to Itunes and pick up his tunes, but be warned; he is truly ear porn and addictive!

Also if you happen to be in the LA area, you can catch John 5 performing with Rick Springfield as well as a host of other special guests for a benefit concert to help their guitar tech, Ruben Velasco who is battling stage 4 cancer. More details can be found here: http://john-5.com/main/2014/08/17/john-5-to-join-rick-springfield-for-rock-for-ruben-benefit-concert-august-20/

Eric Clapton’s latest album, The Breeze, An Appreciation of JJ Cale is a must have for all musicians and is a true honor to his legacy. Cale’s influence on Clapton was profound, and his influence on many more of today’s artists cannot be overstated. Eric gathered a group of like-minded friends and musicians and created the musical masterpiece that features 16 beloved JJ Cale songs and is named for the 1972 single Call Me The Breeze.

I would like people to tap into what JJ Cale did – that’s the point. I’m just the messenger; I’ve always felt that that’s my job. I try to interpret things so that the public at large, or at least the people who listen to what I do, will become intrigued about where I got it from,” said Clapton.

American Hi-Fi have been called pop, rock, pop punk, alternative and so many more genre titles. The fact remains they are simply a great band creating music that appeals to an audience with a variety of genre loves. That just shows how this band successfully created their own style of alternative rock/pop that is quite deserving of your attention. They are set to release their new album, the first in 5 years, Blood & Lemonade on September 9th through Rude Records. Today American Hi-Fi have released a video for their second single off the album, Golden State and you can check it out here:

Singer Stacy Jones adds: “ We shot the video for Golden State at my studio in Los Angeles. The idea was to shoot the band in the same environment that we made the new record in. We also got some B-roll of us cruising in my ’64 Chevy truck that I have been restoring. The palm trees and sunlight tie in the theme of the song. The Golden State, California, a place that can give you new life if you believe in yourself”.

Do you have the new album, Do You Wanna Start a War by Fozzy yet? If not, you better head over to iTunes, Amazon, or Century Media site to pick up the hard copy and some cool merch!  It has been cranking up loud on my playlist for a while now.  Some of my favorites on it are Lights Go Out, One Crazed Anarchist, Do You Wanna Start a War, Unstoppable and Died With You. Ok, let’s be honest, the whole damn album is my favorite!!

Their song Died With You truly shows the versatility with the band and I love the edge and vulnerability it shows, yet maintains its powerful prowess. The vocals are captivating as they bring the emotionally driven lyrics to life. Check out the song here:
