SWITCHBLADE-SERENADE-TATTOO

One of our favorite rock bands,  Switchblade Serenade have announced new music for the coming year. They have announced that they will be releasing a new EP and it will have a heavier modern sound. These guys are incredible musicians and I know one thing, they are unstoppable and we can’t wait to hear their new music.  They released the following statement on their Facebook page which tells a bit more of the vision of the band and the evolution of their new sound:

Over the past few months we have had some changing thoughts on what we want Switchblade Serenade to be. Since we started we have been labeled as an “80’s glam/sleaze tribute band etc.”. We never set out to be anything like that. In our earlier years our influence of bands like Motley Crue and Guns N’ Roses was more prominent in our writing style. However we never wanted to be a so called “80’s Band”.

We have been getting tired of being labeled as such and we wanted to let our other influences shine through and finally make us into the band we always wanted to be. With that being said, a lot of you probably know that we have been working on a new EP and the music is far different from anything we’ve ever released. We have been working on these songs everyday for the past few months and we will be going into the studio to officially track these songs in December. This EP will have a heavy/modern sound to it and will be a big change. By heavy we don’t mean genres like Black Metal, Thrash Metal, Etc. It’s still Rock but in a much heavier and modern fashion.

We felt that there was a need to explain everything because our new music and style will be much different from the Switchblade Serenade you may know. Our musical taste are always changing and expanding and they will be explained in this new EP. We will be posting everyday and there will be various updates about our new music. Stay tuned….

laney

Sweden has just been my Go To country for awesome rock n roll for a while now. It seems that every time I turn around another great rock band from Sweden is popping up. What is really great is that each band are unique in their own way and equally deserving of our attention. Today, I want to introduce you to Laney’s Legion from Stockholm. Their self titled debut album was released in April of this year. Their first single Taste of Your Tongue absolutely rocked me the first time I heard it.

Then they followed it up with their second single, Poptastic and then I knew they had more rockin tunes that I needed to check out. The catchy song brought out a great blend of punk rock angst with a Motley Crue 80s vibe. It has been one of my favorite songs since I first heard it! It has a very catchy sing along chorus, sweet guitar solo and vocals that will have you thinking you were transported to a Sunset Strip nightclub in 1982!

Check out their video for Poptastic here:

Band Members:

  • Chris Laney – leadvocals/guitar
  • Rob Marcello – Guitar/vocals
  • Mats Vassfjord – Bass/vocals
  • Patrik Jansson – Drums/vocals

You can pick up the album on iTunes here and make sure to check out a couple other great tracks on there, Bleed Within, Beneath The Surface and Lady Luck.  Make sure to visit their social media sites and stay up to date on their latest news. We will see if we can bring you an interview with them soon.

tempt

New York City based rockers, Tempt who made their debut earlier this year at Rocklahoma are set to release their new EP, Under My Skin on iTunes, Amazon and a physical CD. The EP was previously only available as a limited edition collectors item released for the band’s appearance at Rocklahoma where the pressing sold out. They will celebrate the official release on July 29th as they will be performing as support for one of my favorites, Tom Keifer at BB Kings in New York City. That is one show I wish I could make it out to!

Zach Allen, the19 year old lead singer of the group explained “we’re starting to get some radio play of other cuts beyond the single and fans want the EP.”  Harrison Marcello, guitarist added, “It’s great to start to hear guitar solos and up beat rock on the radio again!”  The band also stressed that the EP will not be available to streaming services. “We believe that our fans want to hold an album, see the credits and have more of an experience than a streaming service provides. We also believe that our fans want to support us and our music and they understand that streaming does not do that.”

I completely agree that holding a CD or downloading an entire EP is so much more important than streaming. In this day and age, buying a band’s EP or merch is the one sure way that you can truly show your support and we strongly encourage it!  We can’t wait to pick our copy up!

The band chose this show to coincide with the official release date because of their admiration of Tom Keifer. “We had the chance to see Tom perform at Rocklahoma and he is just incredible.” “Of Course we are huge fans and count Tom among our influences so being able to play with him is incredible”.

We will bring you our review of Under My Skin soon and can’t wait to catch Tempt out on a tour soon. We had the chance to interview Tempt earlier this year before they headed out to Rocklahoma. In case you missed it, you can check it out here:  Interview with Tempt.

The New York City based Tempt is Zach Allen (vocals), Harrison Marcello (guitars, keyboards, vocals), Zak Gross (bass, vocals), and Jimmi Kane (drums). Together these four are breathing the life back in to rock and roll with their big sound. Their music is highly guitar driven, up-tempo rock that will have you with your fist in the air and ready to party.

Make sure to visit their social media sites and stay up to date on their latest news. You will be hearing a lot from this young promising band as they bring life back to straight up rock n roll!

tesla

One of my long time favorite rock band from Sacramento, TESLA released their new album, just in time for this summer. TESLA locked themselves away for weeks writing the new album and came up with fourteen solid tracks which will be SIMPLICITY. The album was recorded at their bassist Brian Wheat’s very own J Street Recorders. Legendary engineer Michael Wagener (Metallica, Skid Row, Motley Crue) was then tapped to put the final touches in place. The album was released last week via Tesla Electric Company Recording’s arrangement with Entertainment One Music and Distribution.

It is so exciting to hear that new music is only a couple months away. TESLA has been one of my favorite rock bands since forming in 1981. I have probably enjoyed their shows about a couple dozens time over the years and each time, I leave with an even higher appreciation for them! TESLA is Frank Hannon, Brian Wheat, Jeff Keith, Troy Luccketta and Dave Rude.

TESLA has released the video for their new song, So Devine today and it is AWESOME!!! Check it out here:

This song is really a great track with that signature TESLA sound that I love. It has heartfelt lyrics, cool guitar riffs and emotionally driven vocals, truly proven that TESLA is once again on top of their game! I love it and can’t wait to hear more from the new album. The track listing for the new album is listed below:

1. MP3
2. Ricochet
3. Rise and Fall
4. So Divine…
5. Cross My Heart
6. Honestly
7. Flip Side
8. Other Than Me
9. Break of Dawn
10. Burnout To Fade
11. Life is a River
12. Sympathy
13. Time Bomb
14. ‘Till That Day

TESLA performed a KILLER set on the Monsters of Rock Cruise and they have quite an extensive touring schedule laid out for 2014. Make sure to head over to their upcoming show page here and get yourself to a show! We caught a June 28th date for them here in Sacramento and we will make sure to be there and bring you full coverage of the show. We will possibly see if we can bring you an interview soon.

So be sure to head over to their social media sites and stay up to date on their latest news. Head over to iTunes and pick up  SIMPLICITY.

SG

We are bringing back our weekly feature of Thirsty Thursday Spotlight. Here is where we feature a band that has the thirst to rock and are determined to roll. Here is where we feature a band that you need to know. Today’s featured band is Shattered Generation from Nottingham, England.

These young guys have the passion, energy, and music to satisfy your need for rock. Shattered Generation can be desribed as Glam Metal/Sleaze Rock, Hair Metal, 80’s style rock yet with a modernized sound. They are in way imitating the 80’s bands, these boys have their own unique style and sound.

Shattered Generation is:

  • Johnny Wildheart – Vocals
  • Lexi Black – Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals, Synths
  • Acie Wilson – Bass, Backing vocals
  • Jonno – Drums, Backing Vocals

The first time I hear them was when I was at my desk playing submissions and I pressed play and went off to get my coffee. Within a couple seconds, I ran back, stubbed my toe as I rushed back to check out who was this band? I was loving what I was hearing and needed to crank it up louder! I did and that is how I got my introduction to Shattered Generation. Check out the song I was listening to, Out of Line:

This is a band that even faced with obstacles, nothing will stop their energy. Vocalist Johnny Wildheart has a heart condition and had to have a pace maker installed last year. These guys are determined more than ever to deliver high energy rock and roll. They are currently working with Dito Godwin (Motley Crue, No Doubt, KISS) and Jon Moon (Pink Floyd, Bryan Adams) and you will definitely be hearing a lot more from Shattered Generation.

We will see if we can bring you an interview with these fast rising rockers and hopefully get them to the US soon! Make sure to visit their social media sites and stay up to date on their latest news.

This past Saturday at the legendary Whisky a Go Go was a night that many will remember. Skid Row was making a stop at the legendary venue for their United World Rebellion Tour. It was a sold out show and the venue was packed with a crowd that was ready to ROCK!  The opening bands, Ragdoll, No More Solace, State Line Empire, and Shattered Sun all put on excellent sets. We just caught them at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco earlier in the week and they were so spectacular that we wouldn’t miss their Hollywood show.

Skid Row has been filling up venue after venue and everyone in attendance will surely agree that they put on an amazing performance.  Skid Row is:

  • Johnny Solinger (vocals)
  • Scotti Hill (guitar)
  • Rachel Bolan (bass)
  • Snake Sabo (guitar)
  • Rob Hammersmith (drums)

Once again, they sounded great and Johnny killed it on vocals.  Scotti and Snake are madmen on their guitars as they each dominated their area and commanded the attention of the audience with their amazing guitar work. Rachel on bass is always a pleasure to watch, he is such a cool cat and we were even treated to hearing him sing on Psycho. Rob is a powerhouse on the drums and brings the sound all together.  What I really love is that each band member feed off each other’s energy and their is such a cohesion as they play. They played a lot of the fan favorites and some new songs. They even played a kick ass cover of Cheap Trick’s  Surrender. Check it out here:

The energy of the crowd was literally off the charts. I have been to many shows at the Whisky and Saturday night had me thinking, I was transported to the bustling nightclub back in the late 80’s. There was only one thing on everyone’s agenda…. To Rock out!  Check out the slide show of Rockin Ryan’s photos from their set:

Skid Row are touring in support of their highly anticipated seven song EP,  RISE OF THE DAMNATION ARMY – UNITED WORLD REBELLION – CHAPTER TWO”. The EP is set for an August 5th release in North America via Megaforce Records. If you haven’t listened to any of their newer music, you are missing out. Their United World Rebellion Chapter One is bad ass! With tracks like the guitar crazy Kings of Demolition or Letting Go you might think you are listening to an old Skid Row album. Then their is the stellar ballad of This is Killing Me that will become one of your favorites. Stitches brings a dose of metal that is just the perfect touch. Johnny’s vocals are spot on with his throaty gritty style and will definitely have you beggin for more!

Make sure to visit their social media sites to check for upcoming tour dates and the latest on all Skid Row news. I will leave you with some videos from their set!
