We are getting closer and closer to that special time of year…. NO, not the holidays! I am talking about the annual Winter NAMM Convention, otherwise known as the Disneyland for musicians.  Music Junkie Press will be covering the convention and we look forward to bringing you live coverage of new products, artist appearances, music news as well as coverage of the TEC Awards show.

This year will be the 30th NAMM TEC Awards and it will be an amazing one. Legendary musician /songwriter/guitarist, SLASH will be honored with the Les Paul Award. “The Les Paul Award named for the revolutionary inventor and esteemed musician, honors individuals or institutions that have set the highest standards of excellence in the creative application of audio and music technology. Instituted in 1991, the honor has been granted to luminaries including Pete Townshend, Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, Todd Rundgren, and Peter Gabriel.”

SLASH has not only achieved success with album sales over 100 million copies, won a Grammy Award, seven nominations and we can’t forget the recent induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. His infamous solos from Guns n Roses songs were the inspiration to many young guitar players as they aspired to be as great a guitarist. His work in Velvet Revolver brought on a whole new group of fans and then his solo work with Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, has once again brought him to the forefront of rock n roll. Most recently, with his recent release of World On Fire he has truly set the world on fire with and grabbed everyone’s attention. Check out coverage of their recent performance at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco here.

The TEC Awards will also feature comedian Sinbad as the host and the event will be held on Saturday, January 24th and we will make sure to bring you a recap of the night.

One of our favorite rock bands,  Switchblade Serenade have announced new music for the coming year. They have announced that they will be releasing a new EP and it will have a heavier modern sound. These guys are incredible musicians and I know one thing, they are unstoppable and we can’t wait to hear their new music.  They released the following statement on their Facebook page which tells a bit more of the vision of the band and the evolution of their new sound:

Over the past few months we have had some changing thoughts on what we want Switchblade Serenade to be. Since we started we have been labeled as an “80’s glam/sleaze tribute band etc.”. We never set out to be anything like that. In our earlier years our influence of bands like Motley Crue and Guns N’ Roses was more prominent in our writing style. However we never wanted to be a so called “80’s Band”.

We have been getting tired of being labeled as such and we wanted to let our other influences shine through and finally make us into the band we always wanted to be. With that being said, a lot of you probably know that we have been working on a new EP and the music is far different from anything we’ve ever released. We have been working on these songs everyday for the past few months and we will be going into the studio to officially track these songs in December. This EP will have a heavy/modern sound to it and will be a big change. By heavy we don’t mean genres like Black Metal, Thrash Metal, Etc. It’s still Rock but in a much heavier and modern fashion.

We felt that there was a need to explain everything because our new music and style will be much different from the Switchblade Serenade you may know. Our musical taste are always changing and expanding and they will be explained in this new EP. We will be posting everyday and there will be various updates about our new music. Stay tuned….

Aftershock Festival truly was filled with so many great bands but one set that really stood out was the performance by Black Label Society. It is hard at festivals since you could have several bands playing at the same time but Black Label Society dominated the crowd. Their crowd was filled with both, longtime and new Berzerkers of all ages. Nothing stopped the dedicated fans as they braved the intense 100+ temps to bear witness to the shredding madness of Zakk and his crew. The set was stellar and the fans went wild, begging for more. If one thing I wanted, was a longer set since I could have watched them all day long! Check out the photos by our Rockin Ryan of the set:

If you weren’t able to make it to Aftershock, don’t worry, Black Label Society have been quite busy on some heavy duty touring and it will start again in October. Check the dates and make sure to not miss them if they are coming to a venue even remotely near you. It is definitely not a show to miss and you will leave feeling invigorated and ready to conquer whatever stands in your way. You can also catch Zakk Wylde on the Experience Hendrix Tour!

Need more of a Black Label Society Fix? Make sure to check out when we saw them perform in San Francisco for the Revolver Golden Gods Tour. It was unbelievable. You can read our review of the night here: Black Label Society – Regency Ballroom.  Black Label Society have also announced that they will be on the lineup for the first annual US KNOTFEST with Slipknot, Five Finger Death Punch and Volbeat. So get ready to be in awe of Zakk’s playing as you are fiercely thrust into the BL family. There is no turning back, you are now one of us, a BERZEERKER. SDMF

I will leave you with a commercial that Rockin Ryan made for the Valhalla Java Coffee which is awesome.

Wayland have been getting a lot of attention for their fun new party anthem song, Get a Little. The song starts right off with the sweetest Southern Rock style that just grabs a hold of you. The vocals are powerful and inviting as you find yourself singing along to the catchiest chorus.

This is definitely my new Go To song for when those weekdays just seem to drag on and I’m counting the days to Friday night. This is all you need to lift your spirits and get yourself in that positive mindset. It truly is the perfect anthemic rock song to crank up loud with one fist in the air, the other holding a beer and ready to have some  “feel good fun times”.

The song was release on July 8th is available on iTunes here . You can check out the new music video for the song h ere:

The band is planning on releasing a new album later this year. Wayland has been busy out on tour and if you get a chance, make sure to see them live. They put on an excellent energy driven set that has everyone rockin out! Also make sure to stay up to date by visiting their social media sites.   Enjoy and I am sure you will now be part of the Wayland Warriors!
