We made it out to San Francisco on Sunday night for The Moving On Tour as it made a stop at the Regency Ballroom. We were excited to see Upon A Burning Body perform and knew they were going to be fierce. We have been following them since seeing them play at one of the side stages out on Mayhem 2012. It was awesome to see them grown in the short amount of time and once again they killed it at Mayhem earlier this year.

Their set at the Regency was brutal as they unleashed a heavy dose of metal to the immersed crowd. The crowd went wild as they created a circle pit that extended the length of the venue. It was awesome as the energy of the crowd mirrored the band on the stage. When they perform, they give 150% percent of themselves and hold nothing back. Check out the photos from our Rockin Ryan of their set:

We have been telling you a lot about The Killing Lights, the new music project by Michael Vampire, widely known for his work as frontman in Vampires Everywhere. The day has finally arrived for the release of their self titled EP and it was definitely worth the wait. The  five-song release was produced & engineered by DJ Black & Michael Vampire, mixed by Erik Ron (Motionless In White, Escape The Fate) and mastered by Sterling Sound NYC.

The EP starts right off with Until I Bleed which delivers a straight up dose of rock n roll, complete with some old school style rock guitar solos and wrapped in a modern hard rock edge. As Michael says about the song,  “Writing this song was liberating for me,I was reminiscing about all the fucked up shit that happened to me over the last five years. Everyone has their breaking point and this was mine. I just started scribbling words down on paper that eventually became the intro and I knew that this song would make an impact and hopefully help people in the same situation.”

The next track takes it even a bit heavier with Barely Breathing and has you swirling in a frenzy of double bass, powerful vocals dancing with harmonies and backing chants. It brings out a strong anthemic feel that will awaken your senses and invigorate you.

Crashing Down is absolutely my favorite track off the EP and I have already found myself compelled to put it on replay for most of the afternoon. It bleeds out passion in a dark haunting way as if your emotions and feelings are being felt captive, a very emotive song for me.

Next up is, Lies Spreading Like Fire which was the first single released off the EP and really made a strong impression on the listeners. It immediately had everyone excited for this new chapter of Music for Michael. They also released an epic video for it.  “I am beyond excited to finally release the ‘Lies Spread Like Fire’ video,” said Michael. “We all fight our own demons from time to time, and this is about standing up after the fight. We wanted to keep it as raw as possible, which I feel we achieved using L.A. street culture as the main storyline and aesthetic. This video is for all the fans and people that have stuck with me this past year. Together we will change everything.”

Check out the new video, Lies Spread Like Fire:

The EP ends with Conversations and is another musical gem. This track starts off with an ethereal style intro amid backing vocals/screams. The song transcends through a celestial journey that will leave you in anticipation of more new music from The Killing Lights.

Make sure to head over to iTunes here and pick up the new EP. In case you missed our interview with Michael Vampire, you can check it out here:

We brought you our coverage of Asking Alexandria as they made a stop in San Francisco for The Moving On Tour. Now, we can’t wait to tell you about the opening band out on the tour, The Family Ruin. We have been featuring this amazing rock band from the UK all year long. We brought you our review of their kick ass album, Dearly Departed which was released in September and we couldn’t wait to finally catch them perform live.

One thing is for sure, they delivered an amazing kick ass set at the Regency Ballroom. They blew me away and had me eagerly wanting to see them again soon! Check out more photos of their set by our Rockin Ryan:

From the moment they hit the stage and until they walked off to greet fans at their merch booth, they captivated the crowd with their high energy rock. As we continue with our coverage of last night’s Monster Energy Outbreak Tour stop in Sacramento, I hope you checked out our articles on  Sworn In and Like Moths to Flames. Next up for the night was one of our favorite bands, Crown The Empire. This was the fourth time seeing them this year and they once again delivered a spot on set. They have had quite a busy year with non stop touring and the great success of their latest album release, The Resistance: Rise of the Runaways. It appears with the energy they bring to the stage, there is no slowing down in sight for these guys. They are dedicated to always delivering 150% to each and every show.

They definitely had a strong fan presence in the crowd as you could tell by everyone singing along to each song. They played crowd favorites like Rise of the Runaways, Machines, Bloodline and even finished it off with an amazing performance of The Fallout. They completely rocked the venue and you couldn’t help but be in awe of their cinematic spectacular set. If you walked through those doors not knowing who Crown The Empire was, you left that night with them being your new favorite band. You couldn’t escape the intensity that this band delivered as they had the blood rushing through your veins and left you feeling absolutely alive! This is one band that has successfully breathed the life back into Rock n Roll and added a strong dose of hardcore to insure the right blend that will stand the test of time. Their sound appeals to a wide audience and that is no wonder that their fanbase exponentially grows with each show.

We were glad we braved the 4 hour traffic filled trek to Sacramento last night to catch the Monster Energy Outbreak Rock Tour. After sitting in traffic for so long, it was great to arrive at the Ace of Spades for a night of heavy music to release all that pent up frustration! The night started right off with a fierce set by Sworn In from Chicago. Holy shit, these guys blew us away!

This was the first time I heard of Sworn In and after just a few minutes of hitting the stage, I was converted from a newbie to an absolute die-hard lover. I am bummed that it has taken me so long to find out about this band, but I am now grateful. They have a ferociously heavy sound that brought the crowd to peak levels within minutes of starting.  I am not going to do them the injustice of trying to describe them as a certain genre or sub-genre, they are just pure energy heavy rock with metal influences that you have to hear. Hands down, one of the best sets from an opening band that I have seen in a long time.  With songs like Snake Eyes and Dead Soul, they are going to be your new Go To band on your playlist.

Check out the photos from our Rockin Ryan of their set:

There are still some dates left out on the tour, so make sure to get out and see them!

One of the coolest guitarists in metal, Chris Broderick has announced his departure from Megadeth. Chris posted the following statement on his website:

Due to artistic and musical differences, it is with great reluctance that I announce my departure from Megadeth to pursue my own musical direction. I want all of you to know how much I appreciate the amount that you the fans have accepted and respected me as a member of Megadeth for the last seven years, but it is time for me to move on. I wish Dave and everyone in Megadeth all the best. I am working on a few things of my own and hope that when they come out, you will all dig it.

Until then,
Chris. \m/

We wish all the best to Chris in his future endeavors and we can’t wait to hear what he has in store for all of us.  I am hoping we get to see him once again at the upcoming NAMM convention in January. I will leave you with some photos from our Rockin Ryan of Chris when Megadeth performed at Aftershock 2013.

Stay tuned and stay metal!

ARCH ENEMY have announced Jeff Loomis as their new guitarist and he will be joining them on their upcoming European tour as well as all future 2015 tour dates. Jeff Loomis states: I’m very excited to be playing with ARCH ENEMY. Michael Amott and I have stayed in contact over the years since we toured together when I was playing in NEVERMORE. Not only do I admire his guitar playing and songwriting, but I also consider him a close friend. To be able to share the stage with Michael, Sharlee, Daniel and Alissa is something I’m really looking forward to. 2015 is going to be a great year… See you all on tour!

After a great year of intensive touring in support of their critically acclaimed album, War Eternal, ARCH ENEMY is parting ways with guitarist Nick Cordle, who states: With ‘War Eternal’, I believe we wrote an album together which will stand the test of time, and I wish them well for the future.”  USA fans will be able to catch a special reunion as Christopher Amott (the brother of ARCH ENEMY founder/bandleader Michael Amott) has joined the band for the remainder of their American headlining tour.  Michael Amott (guitars) comments:We all wish Nick the very best in his new endeavors and we are sure that you will hear much more from him. We’re also super grateful to my brother Christopher for stepping in to finish the current American tour!
The prospect of working with Jeff Loomis moving forward is truly awesome! Jeff Loomis is one of the best guitar players in the metal world in my opinion, as well as being a long time friend.
