Thursday night be tackled the dense notorious Bay Area traffic to make it down just in time for The Gospel Tour concert at San Jose State University. Panic! at the Disco headlining tour featuring support by Walk the Moon and Youngblood Hawke was one we were not going to miss.

Panic! at the Disco had an amazing stage set up with probably one of the best light shows I have seen in a long time. It is great to see a band that places an importance on the set, lights, backing led screen. The members were strategically spread out across the stage and yet they didn’t feel isolated or separated.  Vocalist, Brendon Urie, whom earlier this year won for Best Vocalist at the APMA awards proved once again that he is well deserving of the award.
His powerful vocals, charming swagger and personality just shine through each song. He has great stage presence and intense energy that lit up the stadium. The guitarists would sprint across the stage and make sure that they would treat each side to their performance. Dallon on bass would run around and had this never ending energy, he was great at capturing the crowd’s attention. Check out the photos by Rockin Ryan of their set:

The Gospel Tour finishes up tomorrow night in Portland, Oregon. We definitely can’t wait for another return from them. It really was one of the highlighted concerts of this year. They maintained this amazing energy from start to finish, and it was quite a long set! Check out the setlist:

Klayton Celldweller is gearing up for the release of his new album End of an Empire – Chapter 01: Time next month on September 16th. The album will feature 5 new original tracks along with remixes from Breathe Carolina, Comaduster, KJ Sawka and OCTiV. Featuring monolithic vocal tracks of epic scope, this release highlights Klayton’s unique fusion of infectious electronic music with aggressive rock & roll the way only Celldweller can – by blurring the lines between organic and synthetic. The title track “End of an Empire” takes listeners on a 7.5 minute dichotic journey of metal-infused drum & bass blasts, and a contrasting mix of lush vocal hooks and aggressive screams. “Lost in Time” clocks in with another 7 minutes of vocoded vocals, driving guitar riffs and pulsing ethereal synths, concluding with the fading lyric “this feeling will never die.”

Check out the video trailer for the upcoming album here:

You can pre-order the album through FiXT and  iTunes. Check out the track listing here:

Vinyl Thief from Nashville are dishing out a new dreamy electropop rock track that I think you will enjoy. They are premiering their new song, Middle of the Night which brings back the 90’s alternative rock vibe meshed with perfect amount of electronics and dreaminess. It is a luscious dreamy song that I love. Check it out here:

Middle of the Night comes off their new album, Fathoms which is set for a July 22nd release. About the band’s new track, “Middle of The Night,” Vinyl Thief frontman, Grayson Proctor explains, “This song came together at the very end of the album process. I was lying awake in our manager’s apartment at 4am in New York after a gig. I’ve always loved being awake at that point of the night. It almost feels like everyone around you is on pause and you get to experience things completely on your own.” He continues,“I sang the melody and the lyrics “who’s gonna hold you, in the middle of the night” into my phone and didn’t think twice about it. We revisited it later and the three other guys took it somewhere that was really exciting. Logan’s guitar melody in the instrumentals is one of my favorites of the entire record.

Vinyl Thief have a couple upcoming shows:

  • 7/11 – Nashville, TN – DCXV Mural Unveiling Party @ Center 615
  • 7/18 – Knoxville, TN @ Barley’s Taproom
  • 7/21 – NYC – KCRW School Night @ Brooklyn Bowl
  • 7/23 – NYC – LP Release Show @ Mercury Lounge

If you have ever been inside the pizza parlor of the DNA Lounge, you may have noticed all the cool concert posters of bands who have graced the stages of the DNA Lounge. You might even see the four or five My Life With Thrill Kill Kult posters there. The DNA has a long history in San Francisco and I can remember spending many late nights in the late 80’s and 90’s. It has since become one of the favored venues by artists to perform.

We were excited to catch the return of My Life With Thrill Kill Kult as they made a stop in San Francisco for their “Spooky Tricks” Tour in support of their new album of the same title. It was an awesome night that started off with a spectacular set by San Jose symphonic metal band, Retconstruct. You can read more about Retconstruct here. Then there was a set by DJ Toxic Rainbow to get everyone in the dancing mood.

Then as My Life With Thrill Kill Kult took to the stage, the venue was packed and everyone was cheering them on. They put on an energetic, charismatic set that had everyone mesmerized and invigorated. Vocalist, Groovie Mann seduced the audience with his vocals and his sultry style. He has such a magnetic personality and infectious stage presence. He reminds me of an Iggy Pop/Jim Morrison hybrid, yet he has his own style that cannot be imitated. Buzz McCoy on keyboards and backing vocals elicits the magic in each song to compliment Groovie Mann.

Weston Halvorson is a fireball on his guitar and hidden under his hat, he makes it seem so easy. Yet, he careens around wielding his guitar and firing up the crowd. Mimi Star in her ferocious feline fashion purrs on her bass lines and holds the audience captive. Justin Thyme delivered another high powered set on his drums as he smiles to the crowd, letting everyone know that he truly loves to perform.

One thing is for sure, if you have not seen My Life With Thrill Kill Kult perform, make sure to get yourself to a show. They are just finishing up their Spooky Tricks Tour and you can pick up their new album on iTunes here. This band may have a 25+ year history but there is no signs of slowing down or letting up. They are just as intensely awesome as back in the 90’s! I will leave you with the photos of the night by our Rockin Ryan.
