~ ATTENTION UNSIGNED BANDS! ~

The battle is on, as the Ernie Ball Battle Of The Bands returns to the Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival for a fourth consecutive year in 2014. The annual competition is underway now for most dates on the touring rock music and lifestyle festival, and runs through September 12 (deadlines vary by market). Bands can enter the Ernie Ball Battle Of The Bands—and fans can vote for their favorite band—at http://uproar.battleofthebands.com. Bands will be chosen one week prior to the venue they’ve selected to play.

Unsigned bands can enter to win a chance to play live on the Festival Stage at the Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival in their market this August and September. Finalists will compete for the grand prize–valued at over $15,000–which includes a coveted spot on the 2015 Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival, the opportunity to record an EP with legendary producer/mixer Jay Baumgardner at NRG Recording Studios in Hollywood, CA, a Rockford Fosgate Prize Pack, Ernie Ball Guitar String Endorsement, Music Man Instruments, and more (see below for full prize listing).

2013 Ernie Ball Battle Of The Bands winner Sons Of Revelry will be on the road with the Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival throughout the five-week trek. The Brantford, Ontario quartet—Scottish expat Toby Black (lead vocals/lead guitar), Corey Brouwer (backing vocals/rhythm guitar), Arron Rayner (bass), and Sean Boyle (drums)—have the kind of cohesiveness, camaraderie and chops that other bands would kill for. The band recently recorded a pair of EPs in the span of a month – one with world renowned producer Jay Baumgardner (Sevendust, Papa Roach, Three Days Grace, Godsmack) and the other with Canadian producer Brian Moncarz (Silverstein, Bleeker Ridge, The Reason) – and will release them as a double EP just in time for the 2014 Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival. Visit www.sonsofrevelry.com for more information.

Ernie Ball is excited to give Sons Of Revelry the opportunity to reach their dreams,” says Brian Ball, Vice President of Ernie Ball.  “As we’ve seen with previous winners Mindset Evolution and the Chuck Shaffer Picture Show, the Ernie Ball UPROAR Battle Of The Bands is a tremendous way for bands to record with a legendary producer and tour with rock’s biggest bands.”
I know a lot of bands that we have written up about across this country that are currently unsigned and I am hoping they are going to get themselves registered so we can start voting! Good luck and hope to see you at Uproar!

The Word Alive have been busy on the Vans Warped Tour playing to packed crowds every set. They deliver a set that is fueled with energy from start to finish. Their modern heavy music has gained them a strong and dedicated fan base. When you catch their set, you will know what I am talking about. You can’t help but be mesmerized by their intensity and musicianship. They are one set you don’t want to miss.  We had the chance to chat briefly with vocalist Telle Smith before he had to run off and sing guest vocals with Breath Carolina. Check out the interview here and find out what gives him energy before he plays his sets:

The Word Alive will be performing on all the Warped Tour dates and make sure to check the schedule when you arrive to see what time they will be playing on the Monster Energy stage. If you don’t already already have, pick up their new album, REAL. by heading over to iTunes. REAL. was released on June 10th through Fearless Records and really brings The Word Alive to new levels. They have honed in their craft and delivered a well executed album filled with songs that can’t be contained into a specific genre or need to be. It is simply great music and well deserving of your attention. A couple of my faves on the album are Broken Circuit, Never Forget, Glass Castle, Terminal and especially The Runaway.

Black Stone Cherry have the release of their new album, Magic Mountain  in a couple days on May 5th. You can pre-order the album on iTunes here and get the immediate download of their infectious new single, Me and Mary Jane and it ROCKS! One thing is for sure, it delivers the pure style of Southern Rock that is what I love about Black Stone Cherry. Too many times, bands try to come out and reinvent themselves and their sound ends up in a completely different direction of their former self. Also, by no means is Black Stone Cherry playing it safe either.The new song is the perfect example that this band continues to put out bad ass music that everyone wants to hear.  The guitars come on mean and strong and the tone is amazing and I love the talk box on the intro. It has such a groove in its energy and the vocals are once again, spectacular. Take a listen to the new bad ass song here:

Make sure to pick up the new tune and also head over to their social media sites and let them know how you like the new song. Everyone here at Music Junkie Press is LOVING IT!!!  Also make sure to check out their upcoming show dates, you don’t want to miss them.

. I love Metal with clean vocals and a lot of kick ass double bass. My prayers were answered as I discovered Righteous Vendetta! These guys completely deliver everything you want in Metal and more! Check them out here on their latest video for their new single The Fire Inside:

What did you think of that double bass? Kick ass right??? Ya, I thought so! and those vocals, HOLY SHIT! We need more clean metal vocals like that. They just finished putting together their full length album which is set to release this fall. Even those these guys are relatively young, they are delivering music wiser than their years and know what we want! Their song “This Pain” spent 15 weeks on the Billboard charts.

Well, we had a chance to catch up with Justin Olmstead, guitarist and we are pleased to bring you that interview:

* * * * * * * * * * * * *

Music Junkie Press:  Thank you for taking the time out to talk with us here at Music Junkie Press.  We are excited to hear that you are working on your album, how is that going and do you have any update as to release?

Justin Olmstead:    Thank you so much for having us! The album is coming together VERY well. The tracking is completely done for the new record and we are preparing for a September/October release. It will contain full re-recordings of our latest EP “Vol. 1” plus four brand new songs, and possibly a few bonus tracks. We are very excited with how the new material is turning out and we can’t wait to share it with everyone!

Music Junkie Press:   We are just as excited and can’t wait for it! How did you guys all form Righteous Vendetta?

Justin Olmstead:   Ryan and I formed the band at a small community college in Powell, WY with a few friends and our piano professor actually. We started playing locally and regionally just to have some fun, but after our first national tour that next summer we realized that we all wanted to pursue music as a career.

Music Junkie Press:    You definitely have a great blend of rock and metal, what are some of the most influential artists for you?

Justin Olmstead:   Thank you! That is our goal, to mesh the best of both worlds! We started off as a metalcore band, so the influences that stuck with us from the earlier days are Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, For Today, August Burns Red, All That Remains, etc. A few of our influences that are more apparent in our latest work are Alter Bridge, Norma Jean, Papa Roach, Spoken, Disturbed, Thousand Foot Krutch, and Skillet. We try to find elements of artists that made us enjoy listening to them, and take that a step further. There is a reason why certain bands and artists are successful and have mass appeal, and their fans want to hear the things they already love, just evolved.

Music Junkie Press:    Your song “This Pain” is KICK ASS! Can you tell us the story behind the song?

Justin Olmstead:   Well shucks! There is actually an interesting story behind how the song came about. We finished our 2011 release “Lawless” and started thinking what we were going to do next. After some ideas were tossed around, we decided to try something that would really challenge our songwriting skills and push us to our creative limits. So we took the intensity and high-energy of our older metalcore sound and tried to take it in a more appealing direction. So we went to our producer Joel Wanasek (JTW Studios) in Huburtous, WI, and we told him we wanted to give a test run at writing a hit anthem. We came in with the song, and he guided us along in polishing it up and giving us some pointers for active rock writing and radio formats as it was next to foreign for us. The result was better than we could have imagined. We loved the sound, we loved writing it, we loved playing it, and it ended up spending 15 weeks on the Christian Rock Billboard Charts. Needless to say, that settled it for what direction we were going to take. So that song was actually foundation of what became our new sound.

Music Junkie Press:    That is incredible how that song evolved, truly a work of art that you all put together! I understand that you had completed an extensive tour with Hurt and we enjoy watching your Vlogs/studio updates,  what might have been the craziest thing that happened on tour?

Justin Olmstead:   That tour was absolutely amazing. It was a little over 2 months, and the first month was with Smile Empty Soul. It was truly a blessing touring with such professional acts, and we learned a lot from them. There were some crazy things that happened to Hurt, but I’ll keep those stories confined to the road. The most fun thing for us had to be our final-show prank on them. Rek (bass player) burns a single stick of incense every night. Not the cheap crap, the good stuff. Yoga quality. Well we went and found a 40 pack of Clean Linen scented incense at Walmart. If you’ve ever smelled any incense from Walmart burning, you’ll know exactly the intensity of this prank. We taped up about 20 incense at various points around the back of the stage and lit all of them at the same time. The room was instantly filled with a THICK fog of absolute stench. Pwnd.

Music Junkie Press:    OH, I can only imagine what that would have smelled like! I would be running for the doors! How old were you when you started playing music ?

Justin Olmstead:   I was 14 when I first seriously started focusing on guitar. Ryan actually started out on drums at about 17, then moved to vocals at 18. Carl started when he was 16, two years before he joined the band. Isaiah was the only one raised in music and his Dad was training him around 3 or 4.

Music Junkie Press:    Can you remember what is the first song you learned how to play in its entirety?

Justin Olmstead:   The first song I learned in its entirety was You Shook Me All Night Long by ACDC. I have always been an ACDC fanatic, and by the time I was 17, I had learned at least one riff from every song I had from them. Angus Young is the man.

Music Junkie Press:    That is a KICK ASS first song to learn! If you could put together your dream lineup for a tour, what three bands (living or dead, broken up, etc) would you put on the bill with you?

Justin Olmstead:   This answer is a serious answer. Nickelback, Led Zeppelin w/ Bonham, and ACDC.

Music Junkie Press:    That would be a hell of a lineup! If Righteous Vendetta was to be a comic book and you were all superheroes, what would you be called and what would your super powers be?

Justin Olmstead:   Ryan already is a superhero. His name is Fecus and he has the most insane butt noises in the entire world. Carl would be Narcolepsy, and he can outsleep any challengers. I think I would just be called Superdad, because it literally takes super powers to keep these idiots quiet in hotel rooms and host homes. Lastly, Isaiah would be Los Loco. And his super power is being Hispanic.

Music Junkie Press:     I think that could be quite a fun and interesting comic book!! If you could take any song from another genre  (pop,country, etc)  and remake it into your own style, what would it be?

Justin Olmstead:   St. Elmo’s Fire by John Parr. Best chorus of all time.

Music Junkie Press:    I loved that song! I just might have to find my old soundtrack and play that one tonight. That would be great to totally make it into your own style. If we could peak into your iPod/mp3 player what artist or song, might we be most surprised at seeing?

Justin Olmstead:   A fan of our music would be completely disappointed stealing my iPod. It is completely filled with country music. I like listening to just about everything, but the only music I own is country music. The most surprising would probably be the entire Brad Paisley discography. He’s my guitar idol, and I have every song he’s ever released.

Music Junkie Press:    Country music has such passion in it though and I too am a Brad Paisley fan…. Lastly, we will share all your social media links. Is there anything you would like to share with our audience?

Justin Olmstead:  Thank you for having us and letting us share our updates! Thank you to everyone who is supporting us and has or will be checking us out online or coming out to a show! Check our tour dates with 10 Years, and be on the lookout for our record dropping in September/October!

* * * * * * * * * * * * *

This band is definitely one you want to catch when they come to your town!  I am excited for the new album as well and will keep you updated when we get a confirmed release date so we can all be cranking up some Righteous Vendetta! Make sure to check out all their social media sites so you can stay up to date!

~ Enjoy and raise those horns, Marisol

Sacramento, CA rockers, Some Fear None have a new CD out that you have to get your hands onto and your ears listening! I first saw this incredible rock band over a  years ago as they opened up for Burn Halo and Smile Empty Soul. We were blown away by the energy these rockers bring to the stage. You have powerful vocals by Nathan Giguiere, intense guitar work by Chuck Carrasco, slamming bass by Gina Salatino and pounding drums by Jason Weisker. You put these four together and you are completely captivated by their unique rock sound that blends everything from metal to alternative, to grunge and more.

Their debut CD, “Break Hold and Elevate” is a work of art as you get a fusion of sounds reminiscent of early Deftones, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden as well as other bands like Three Days Grace, Seether, and more. They truly have created their own unique sound and don’t try to put themselves into any particular genre or subgenre of music. They do what they are best at, creating their own unique and original sound and have a stage presence to back it up! You can check out a video from their CD release show in May, they are performing one of my favorite songs, “Painstaking” :

They will be playing at the Ace of Spades on August 17th with Stepchild and if you act quickly you can get your ticket  here to the show for $10 and for the next week, they will include the new CD! In my opinion, I would suggest you head over first to Itunes and download the new CD so you can get to know all the songs and then buy your ticket to the show and have a hard copy CD too! Win/Win situation, any way you look at it.   So who is coming out to the Ace of Spades show with us?  There are also a couple other upcoming shows that I will include below as well.

Also you can vote for Some Fear None to play the RockstarUPROAR festival at Shorline Ampitheater September 11th. You can submit your vote by entering your  name and email on this link:  http://battle.rockstaruproar.com/u/somefearnone. You can vote daily, listen to their songs, and make sure to share with your friends so we can see them play in September.

~ Crank it up loud, Marisol

joshua

Today I wanted to bring a very special artist interview to you. This week we are featuring the amazing talented rock vocalist, Joshua Adams from Las Vegas. Joshua brings his powerful vocals to life and it flows with such emotion which reminds me of my other favorite singer, Myles Kennedy.  You really have to take a listen and I am sure you will fall in love with his voice! Here is his video for his absolutely wonderful and uplifting song, “Everything Will Be Alright”. This song simply feeds my heart and soul, and you can’t help but feel serenity.

UPDATE: Joshua has a Kickstarter Campaign for his upcoming Acoustic Tour!! Details here.  We made our pledge so make sure to check it out and get Joshua to play in YOUR Town!!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Music Junkie Press:   First, I have to tell you that the first time I heard your voice, I seriously got chills. You have such an amazing vocal style that just emits emotion and is soul touching. The first song I heard was, “Everything Will Be Alright”. Can you share a bit of how that song came about?

Joshua:  Thanks so much for the compliments. It’s always nice to hear about a positive reaction to my music and vocals. “Everything Will Be Alright” is definitely one of my new favorites. The inspiration comes from seeing people around me deal with some very difficult times and not really having anything to say that would help. At times like that, the only thing you can say is “everything will be alright”.   The sound contains some of my favorite lyrics I’ve ever written 🙂

* * *

Music Junkie Press:  Second, we are so excited to see you in the VeeWall Vocals Performance Contest competing for $100,000. We understand you are also working to donate to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. We are voting everyday and hope you win. Can you tell us how you chose to donate to this charity, is there a personal story behind it?

Joshua:   Thank you for the support and voting! I don’t normally enter contests like this, however I saw it as a wonderful opportunity to raise some money for a few good causes, one of those being breast cancer research. I’m lucky to have never been directly affected by the disease, however the inspiration to donate to the cause comes directly from fans who have dealt with it. Over the years, I’ve seen some amazing fans and friends have to deal with the horrible disease and always wanted to help the cause.

* * *

Music Junkie Press:  How old were you when you first starting getting into music and what was your first concert?

Joshua:   I was around 12 or 13 when I began learning to play the guitar. Soon after that I was writing and then not long after, singing. My first “real” concert was probably around 17 or 18 years old at a high school event in a National Guard Armory.

* * *

Music Junkie Press:  Do you have a specific writing ritual?

Joshua:   Not really… Sometimes I’ll sit down and force myself to write, but the best stuff always comes out when least expected. Usually I’ll be in the car or on the computer and a new idea or melody comes to me.

* * *

Music Junkie Press:   What are you working on currently and what can we expect from you in 2013?

Joshua:  I’m currently in the final stages of a new album, which should be released this May. This year should contain music releases, video releases, tour dates, and meeting many awesome new fans.

* * *

Music Junkie Press:  Where can we currently get your music?

Joshua:   All of my previous releases can be found on iTunes by search Joshua Adams. I believe they are also on Amazon, Napster, Rhapsody, and a few other online retailers.

* * *

Music Junkie Press:  If we could peak into your Playlist or Ipod who would be the next three artists/songs on shuffla? Anyone that might surprise us?

Joshua:  Hmm…you’d probably hear Alter Bridge’s “Watch Over You”, Jeff Buckley’s version of “Hallelujah”, and maybe a Shinedown song. The surprise to many may be that I don’t really have many songs in my phone/ipod at the moment.

* * *

Music Junkie Press:  If you could remake any song from any genre, what would it be?

Joshua:   Good question. I’ve always been a big fan of Michael Jackson and would love to remake one of his many hits. I’m dragging my feet with it though because I want to make sure it’s the right song for me and to do the song justice.

* * *

Music Junkie Press:  When is your album going to be released and is there a title as of yet?

Joshua:   It looks like late May and as of now it’s just self titled “Joshua Adams”. I might pick a track to be the title track. Thank you so much for the interview and support!

 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Thank you so much Joshua for your time and we will include all the links and information on you as well as the link to keep voting for you on VeeWall Vocals Performance Contest.

Now my friends it is up to you keep voting for Joshua and let’s make sure he wins this contest. The song he entered is a beautiful one, “I Promise You” and you can check it out right when you vote here.

~ Get Voting and Enjoy, Marisol
